Hi guys,

todays most strange hand looked like:

BTN: 150 BB (VPIP: 23.08, PFR: 21.54, 3Bet Preflop: 8.70, Hands: 67)
SB: 361 BB (VPIP: 87.50, PFR: 50.00, 3Bet Preflop: 40.00, Hands: 17)
BB: 107 BB (VPIP: 40.63, PFR: 28.13, 3Bet Preflop: 18.18, Hands: 32)
UTG: 134.5 BB (VPIP: 40.38, PFR: 9.62, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 53)
Hero (MP): 194 BB
CO: 100 BB (VPIP: 24.22, PFR: 17.19, 3Bet Preflop: 12.73, Hands: 131)

So we play IP vs a fish that does call to much preflop and plays the flop to river kind of aggressiv.
There is just one note i've got that could be relevant maybe: He likes to donk the flop with a made pair or better.

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has Q♣ J♣

UTG raises to 3 BB, Hero calls 3 BB, fold, fold, SB raises to 5 BB, fold, UTG calls 2 BB, Hero calls 2 BB

Preflop I call him because we are IP and he bets a lot postflop so if I made a hand I can have a good controle about the situation and can get a lot of implied odds. Hes a fish, we are IP, he folds (4/6) 3Bet so I think calling is the right move here for max value.

Flop: (16 BB, 3 players) 4♦ Q♠ 7♣
SB checks, UTG bets 5 BB, Hero calls 5 BB, SB calls 5 BB

OTF we got TP and a kicker as an overcard vs 2 player IP which is pretty good I think. -> And as assumed he bets. The size is 5/16 = 31 %
So first point here is -> should I raise here? I think the board will not improve to much. -> I just called -> BB called and am not to happy with this because for this BB had a way to cheap possibility to call for improvement. How much do I raise here to make it right?

Turn: (31 BB, 3 players) 4♠
SB checks, UTG bets 19.5 BB, Hero calls 19.5 BB, fold

On the turn Villian bets again - now stronger.
He plays like 40 % of his hands: AA-22,AKo-A8o,KQo-K9o,QJo-Q9o,JTo-J9o,T9o-T8o,98o-97o,87o-86o,76o-75o,65o-64o,54o,AKs-A2s,KQs-K7s,QJs-Q8s,JTs-J8s,T9s-T8s,98s-97s,87s-86s,76s-75s,65s-64s,54s,43s
I think he could 2-barrel with: AA-77,44,AKo-AJo,KQo-KTo,QJo-Q9o,JTo-J9o,97o,87o,64o,54o,AKs-A9s,A4s,KQs-KTs,QJs-Q8s,JTs-J9s,T9s,98s,87s,76s-75s,65s-64s,54s,43s
Be bets 19,5/31 = 62%

River: (70 BB, 2 players) J♥
UTG bets 33.5 BB, Hero ...

So river we hit the 2Pair which is good to bet/fold, but before he fire a 3rd barrel with 33,5/70 = 48%
I do not like the 3rd barrel ....

16 % * 103,5BB = 16,56 BB
84 % * 33,5BB = 28,14
EV = 16,56 - 28,14 = -11,58

Would you call here?

Thanks for ur thoughts! :)

I wouldn't raise the flop multiway with just TPGK just only to make it less compelling for the guy behind me.
I think you played this hand well.

OTR my initial instinct is to call. But you put him on a range and checked your EV and it tells you that it should be folded. So now the question again is if the range you gave him is realistic. Your break even point is about at 25% equity.

I think that range might need some working. The guy definitely looks like a fish but he has open raised only 10% and this time he did raise pre.

You get half or more of the hand-reading wrong. Dude raised from UTG, so dude has a good hand (according to the unreliable stats). Your hand is a suited connectors, but perhaps the worst suited connector for the situation (worst position and an easily dominated hand). Then the small blind joins the fun. He raises small. Do you think he has a bad hand?

Hitting a pair versus two tight opening range is not necessarily good news. You have position (which is good news).

Flop: Of course you call. Raising merely serves to force out SB. I'd not do that. Play this as small as possible.

Turn: Did you count the players? You aren't alone with UTG. Your TPNK is no more good to win a small pot. Fold.

River: Well, this is up to you. Now you beat AA/KK/AQ/KQ and close the action. I'd call instead of talking myself into something stupid.

Yeah but had to put on the filter - so with the filter we go like:

Recalc EV:
4,5 % * 103,5BB = 4,66 BB
95,5 % * 33,5BB = 31,99 BB
EV = 4,66 - 31,99 = -27,33

Ok - but what is wrong with my position? I play IP to both of them OTF and later or am I wrong?

Honestly I do not know what this bet says for sure. I think it is a value bet like pockets 10er or JJ. I mean he will not make anyone fold here with that small raise so it has to be a value bet. But if I assess him as unknown I would see him raise higher with QQ+, AK.

Yeah so here I would like to try to control pot-size small as possible without giving them free cards. So Flop-pot-size is a lot smaller than turn and river pot so: I would like to bet big on flop and bet small on turn or even just give up depending on enemy-action and board-texture. If villian c-bet it depends as well ...

New aspect -> and even not wrong so I may fold here next time yeah.

Do you not even think AA and KK would have raised preflop?

Thanks for this guys! Already now I took new aspects into my next decisions and analyses! _love:

Calling pre and flop :f_thumbsup:
I too think fold turn. You're dominated 95% of the time.
River: What was the point calling the turn when you fold river when you hit 2 pair?

PS I think 'thinking' too much 'Math' will not work.
If poker were just math, it would have been cracked 40 years ago.

This passage refers to preflop (I should have been clear about that). When UTG opens and you are in HJ, then you do presently have the worst position. What will usually happen is that you get a caller or raiser behind you. This is a spot to be very tight in (and mind you, I am not a very tight player before the flop:D). I am saying that you should be leery. You should also know that everyone else will see that you probably have a nice hand, and when they (SB in this case) reraise, they reraise into strong perceived ranges.

The above reasoning propagates to the flop. Now UTG has seen this all. Still he bets and keeps betting. Even fish will unconsciously be aware that they need a strong hand to do that.

The river card is good and it would improve me situation in most case but the action of villian on river looks really strong for me.

Math is just making thoughts more specific that may could be like a little bit randomized by feelings, habits, ...
.... if I put villian on a wrong range I have to redo this but right now I do not have an argument that reduce the function of math :f_thumbsup:

Ok - got it now - something new that I need to think about in my next hands!
