Hi. I want to start playing MTT but I do not know where to start. I'm a little lost with all the different modalities: slow, regular, turbo, hyper, KO, zoom, shorthanded, full ring .. I'm looking for advice on which tournaments to start playing and what material I can use to learn

1) Which mode is the best to start? mtt? slow? Turbo? hyper? is it better to start in sngs?
2) a) Are there any good books for tournaments? Which one do you recommend? (I like reading books..). b) series of videos? Which one do you recommend? (I think that for next month I can become silver in pokerstrategy)
3) What software do you use in mtt? Are they as necessary as in cash? (I have PT4)

I've played poker occasionally for a few years now. Play microstakes NLH, PLO, FL. always casual, for fun. My goal is to do the same with the MTT, I want to learn and have a little fun.

regards

The best start is I think to read the https://forums.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=314586 first, because there you find the basic information about tournaments.

The game type is always tricky, but I would start with regular speed tournaments. Then you have more time to move around and the variance is less than in other formats.

I have nothing with books, but you can always check out our poker books page.

I think a tool like PT4 or HM2 is fine to use in tournaments. It could help with reading people, etc.

I expect this helps a little bit, but you have more questions don’t hesitate to ask them.

Cheers,

I think KO tournaments are the future and it would be wise to focus on them. There's a great article by Barry on that topic too: https://www.pokerstrategy.com/news/world-of-poker/Are-Knockout-tournaments-good-for-poker-_103184/

I only play MTT and i recommend you to start at lowest buy in, no matter what it costs (0.10$ for example) to see how the blinds and the bubble works etc. Then if your style is more 'agressive' the turbo or hyper mtt will fit better to you because you need to play more hands and win hands earlier or the blinds will kill you quite fast compared to slow tournaments which it takes 10-15min to increase the blinds (in turbo-hyper is 5-3 min + ante since the begining).

Then the Hud, well i bought HM2 to use hud in mtt and check & learn, and it worked pretty well for me, i've never played cash games (or poorly) and i don't know how the hud works there and which is the best one to use but definetly is different from a mtt hud. In mtt the fact of stealing blinds is very important and maybe in cash isn't. Ofc you should have the 3bet, CBet, PFR, VPIP... etc

Hope i helped.

PD: I don't know anything of books but here in pokerstrategy you can read some info to increase your mtt level. (It's something!) I'm sure you can find some videos in YouTube but i figure the best ones are in webs or blogs and cost $$$
