Can I legally host a poker game from home?

Hi everyone,
I recently watched Molly’s Game and was wondering, if I can legally host a poker game on my own premises. Of course, it is great to have your friends around and not having to go to a casino and being stuck with the normal casino poker rules. It is well known that the origin of Poker dates back to the USA. It is well known too, that online casinos as seen here [link removed by la55i] are mostly illegal on that side of the world which made me wonder if it I would get into trouble when hosting a poker game. I do like video poker too, but the greatest thing about playing poker with your friends from home is the fact that you can bring your own beverages and can play as you want, with your own rules as well as you can set the pace. In the movie Molly’s Game, it is a slightly different scenario. The poker games are hosted in a bar in the beginning and then at a hotel. So, I would obviously run it a bit differently. I read somewhere that you could be breaking the law by hosting a poker event in your own home which also applies to other games like blackjack and roulette. Anyone has had any experience with it, especially in the States?
