If you believe that villain likes to chase draws regardless of his pot odds and you need to ask somebody else if your fold on the turn was correct (so you are not sure) than you can try to check on the flop, keep pot small and in difficult spot call his much smaller bet. You have a chance that he will not push you when you just check/call and instead he will try to extract some value with moderate bet on the river. Even if you call wrong, you wouldn't lost much. Even if it's statistically EV-, your EV would be in fact close to 0.

Strong cards on wet flop doesn't need to mean high betting.

When you are strong on the flop but you know that you will have to make tough decision on the river, than you prefer to keep pot=20BB on the river than to keep pot = 100BB on the river.
