been taking a lot of beats here. I put him on either gutshot or flushdraw, both of which were completed by my Q, so I went for checkcall to protect my stack. Do I need to grow a new set of balls, or was this play fine?

I would still bet/call the Turn since there are more combo's of Kx than made flushses plus you have equity against flushes on the Turn

I think he plays perfectly now against you on the River but maybe also on the Turn as he will check back Kx and bet flushes/straights

depending on how accurate your read abt the flush draw is, best play imo is between b/f turn and c/f turn
easy said but hard to let go of trips at the table..

since you´re deep then your play is fine there
b/c is fine on your stack size but if you don´t want to build big pot then c/c calldown is also ok
