Hey whats up!
Intro:
My Name is Nico, from Vienna Austria 27y.
I have been playing poker for now close to 10years and the beginnings were a struggle where I dipped in all kinds of formats.
My longest stretch was in MTT´s where I was coached and staked by some of the most well-known pros in the MTT world bein Bencb,HealtheWorld or Watnlos.
However, I eventually decided that Mtt´s and their Variance is just not a Life I wanna live.
I finally found my success in Heads up cash due to the recommendations of friends that I made along the way in BPC (Bestpokercoaching). Many of you will probably know them. BPC was by far my biggest influence in poker, one of the best advice for poker and life came from them and the greatest experiences in their camps when we travelled and met up. It was one of the times I enjoy the most thinking back to. I took me a long time to grow up in poker and become mature enough. I think this was one of my biggest realisations I had in the last year that I was simply not “grown up” in life enough for poker and to realize that it takes time. Everybody has his own time to shine and that’s ok. There are some geniuses out there that make it in poker in a few years I am not one of them and that’s ok. With all the interviews or YouTube videos you see in the big world of poker you constantly read about players making it in no time whatsoever, in reality they either have been in poker for years and their experience accumulated over time and then they broke through in a short time frame or they had responsibilities in life like a family to take care of or just ..life. I had neither, I was living at home, rent free, it didn’t have real consequences. Therefore, everything took me longer in poker, but everything I went through got me to this point where I am at right now.
I also realized that Poker was never the passion I thought it was, it was “fake” passion and the real reason why I am in poker is just Money. Money is my passion. Once I realized that, I made peace with it that poker was never the thing that made my heart beat an just taking poker as a vehicle for money is also totally fine as long as I am aware of that.
Poker:
I currently play HUNlhe <600NL
I just finished coaching and now also started 6max nlhe <500NL
I took HUPlo coaching last year and now get back into the game where I paly <200
My plan is to also learn another variant in the near future, being plo4/5 sixPlus holdem or whatever else I have interest in.
I basically wanna paly everything where a good table is running.
Action in summer is usually very slow so we will see how this year goes.
I also play on all sites you can think of 😊
Here are some graphs:
--- wanted to post them but it says my current status doesnt allow eternal links :(---
Nlhe Hu: ~14EVBB/130k hands
HUPLO: ~14EVBB/40k hands
Exactly 1 year ago I moved into my first ever flat in Vienna after going through different airBnB´s for over 1 year, this was a huge benchmark in my life and now the time has finally come where can strictly focus on building my finances for my 30´s.
Every Profit above my financial needs will be sent to an emergency fund and whenever that one is fully build everything will go into investing, either in dividend stocks which I really love and/or in standard ETF´s.
I do accounting for all my finances on the beginning of every month to have a good overview and in a few days I will see where we stand.
This month until 2 days ago I exclusively focused on playing zoom50 and learning 6max intensively combined with going on holidays for 5 days I fully expect this month to be a total net loss in Networth.
Apart from poker:
I started training and losing weight April 2022. I started with 119kg at 190cm and now made it down to 99/100kg.
I started fighting BJJ (Brazilian jiu-jitsu) in October last year and fell in love with it. When fighting, when getting choked, submitted not being able to breath. You name it..I cant help but smile since I love it so much.
I started competing after ~3months of training because I just wanted to compete so badly. I have since then fought at 3 different tournaments and got killed, which is awesome. M next competition will be in September where I try again, I want to fail so hard there when giving it my all because I want the struggle, I want more struggle than anyone so when I finally win for the first time it will be more glorious than anything.
For BJJ I wanna cut down to 97.5kg which is roughly 3kg form now..
Why this blog:
I struggle with my mindset at times quite a bit, especially with consecutive losing days. I always fear that this month is gonna be terrible, I will be losing money and my poker journey is ending even though in ~18months I never had a single losing month when focused on grinding the only exceptions were May 2023 where I shot took nl1000 6max and lost 7BI and ended the month -1.3k and this month where I solely focused on improving 6max. I started working with a therapist a few months ago to also work on this.
With this blog I wanna be able to look back and see how far I have come, sharing my journey with others might give me the chance to be an inspiration to others and will hopefully keep m mindset a bit more in check. I also wanna share my journey to the magic 6 figure (100k) mark that I wanna hit.
Something I wanna focus on is to only look at the individual results of PLO/nlhe HU when I hit 20k hands in sample.
ALSO: meeting with 3 poker friends from vienna every 2 months or so and we are always looking for new people to meet ![]()
