I think you made a very good choice for your future. I know you had a lot of success in MTT and people would tell you to keep playing poker but I am in the same situation as you right now and I have about 2 weeks of school left and it's pretty much hell with poker :(.

Time management for the lose for us.

Would like some of your thoughts on this :

I have $2k on UB right now.

I've been offered .45/$ i.e $900 for $2k.

Now, there have been posts on 2p2 of people successfully getting $500 so by no means have they just shutdown. They still have 9k people playing right now so the site isn't dead too.

However I haven't cashed out before and I suspect I will need to do an ID check before successfully doing so. Given that they are working with like <10 staff - this could take a v long time.

Also relevant maybe is that my current BR is like $8k (assuming the Ub money is lost) and I play mtts with an avg buyin of like $30. So like I can pretty much tolerate the risk and variance if I percieve it to be more +EV to try to ride it out.

For the transfer to be +EV I have to believe there is >55% chance of UB not paying me out.

So what do you guys all think?

Well, if you dont need the $900 immediately (as it seems) then I would ride it out and see.

One of the possibilities is that if UB goes under, it will be taken over by another poker platform (and all customers' deposits guaranteed by new owner). N.B. that is speculation by me - I have no info to that effect.

GL, whatever you decide.

haxton sells 300k for 60k

so if you sell 2k for 900 you can then buy 4500 with your 900 and so on

Hi all,

Since I'm so bored from revising decided to update this a little. Although I guess I said I wasn't playing poker until my exams finished, I have played a slight amount, in short :

  • Trade $2k UB money for $900 on stars - 2h later UB announce deal with DOJ
  • Lose said $900 playing HUNL on stars
  • Lose $300 more playing odd SCOOP events
  • Win a little money (~$400) playing live pokahs

So yeah before I left I had a nice sized bankroll to v comfortably be playing an ABI of $30-40 on. I've since then lost like $3k (took some money out for irl expenses) so I now am only really suitably rolled to be playing a $30 abi when I come back at the start of summer.

I also, again in an act of procastination, created a schedule to play for ~10 wks in summer - some weeks I will just take off and am going on holiday etc. Yea its gna be pretty hectic schedule but hopefully lets me grind some moniez. Schedule is below :

Quite like this schedule, and although it involves 12h sessions on 3 days of week, and likely a 12h-15h session on a sunday - it should net me quite a lot of $$ if I run at expectation (although with mtts anything is possible, and by no means do I need to win money - but it is ofc nice) In the ~3h I have on playing days going to try to do at least 1h of exercise so I can hopefully grind this schedule out of about 4-5 weeks at a time. And on the days I have off no poker will be played - imo this is a must for it to have a chance at working.

One of my main areas of spew are cash games, so I am going to refrain from playing them all summer.

Also have changed the blog title from journey to the midstakes, to journey to the highstakes. Because I kinda consider $30 ABI to be midstakes (although near the lower end of the spectrum) and a nice goal that I have set myself is to be playing around or >$100 ABI in 1 year time.

Now I've suitably wasted 20 minutes writing this blog post, time to hit the books again :f_biggrin:

Hi, I normally play STTs but have recently given the daily dollar tourney on FTP a go and seem to enjoy the game. How difficult do you find it to balance playing MTTs and balancing life, studies etc?

Also, could you please check the hand in this thread? 2 pair after isolating EP limper in a HU pot

Thanks

pretty hard lol

Atm I'm finding it v hard to balance buts that because of an extreme lack of balance earlier in the year. I've had a ~month long break from poker and certainly up there on top of my goals is to strike a much better balance.

MTTs is probs the hardest way to make money in poker. Cash games and sngs/hell even mttsngs give much better oppurtunity for balance etc. But at the same time - the feeling of reward when you take down a MTT with a 5k field can not be achieved (imo) through any other form of poker.
