I'm a bit of dummy with technology... I have no idea how I would do that... any recommendations... it could be fun to analyze my in-the-moment lines of thought... I bet it would keep me a bit more honest with myself.

The best software for this is Camtasia Studio I think but it's not free.
OBS works nicely too. It's mostly known as a streaming software, but I have used it in the past for screen recordings and video editing as well. It's free and open source.
Thanks for the suggestions... they both look like neat options. I'll give it a go in the next week.
Small detour... I've found something exciting for another one of my hobbies and will be spending a few days learning all about that. Just a small poker vacation, I won't be gone long.

Back in mid 2015 I was stumbling around on Twitch watching some different streamers and came across a show called "Critical Role" where people were playing D&D. (I'm sure just about everyone has heard of the show now, but they were just getting started back then)... I think I started around episode 8... Hard to believe they are now the highest earning Twitch streamers, and have one of the most successful KickStarter campaigns ever. Anyways, I had a very rough impression of what D&D was, but had never played anything of the sort before. Monopoly, Risk and Scrabble were my main go-to's. (I've since broadened my board-game list considerably)
These "critical role" guys and gals were just so funny and engaging that I got hooked on the show and pretty quickly got into D&D myself. I bought a few books, drug my friends into it and started DM'ing and I absolutely love it. This spawned several other hobbies for me as well (3D printing, miniature painting and crafting with XPS foam). I used to be quite creative when I was younger but as I got older, responsibility took over and I lost that part of myself. It was really refreshing and rewarding to find these creative outlets again... and I love learning so it offered that as well.
Anyways to answer your question - with the pandemic, I haven't been able to play or host a game in almost 2 years now and it's been quite bothersome. I checked out a few different online options about 18 months ago and didn't really see anything that I thought was accessible to me (remember I'm a tech-dummy)...
The other night though, when I was online looking at OBS and Free Screen Recording to record myself playing poker, I stumbled across Foundry Virtual Table Top and Dungeoncraft and they both seem ridiculously intuitive and easy to use. I'm getting myself up to speed on those to see if I can try and get a short one-shot game together in the near future.
Where I live we are basically still restricted to our own households, so this may be a good way to fill in the gap until things improve (and I think will still be useful in some way once we are able to play live as well).
By the way, if anyone is interested in the "Critical Role" phenomena, they are starting their brand new campaign next Thursday on Twitch/YouTube if you wanted to check it out.

Nah, you didn't lose that part, it just had to lay idle for a while because you were busy with more important matters. It's good that you have found some outlets for it now, sometimes it feels like we have to invent new hours in the day to pursue those kinds of things.
And as I mentioned, OBS is also a streaming software and probably the most common one among Twitch streamers, so if you'd like try streaming yourself, maybe give it a shot. There are plenty of people on the forum who could help you with setting it up, and once that's done, streaming is about as easy as recording.

Yes I can't agree more with that.I guess it is natural to think that there is a linear relationship with playing more hands and gradually playing worse poker. But I think the curve is more of a bell curve with a sweet spot in the middle. Playing too many hands past that sweet spot will lead to overwhelm and making more mistakes. But on the other end playing too few hands per hour will lead to boredom and distraction and inability to get into flow.
This is the conclusion that I have recently come to, and finding that sweet spot has definitely improved by performance!
I just go through this blog and I've recently found this to be very true by myself.
Just a quick update that I'm still on a small poker break. A few other interests have recently been rekindled so I am taking some time to explore those, but I expect I'll be jumping back into poker in about a week or so (although at a reduced capacity).
