Hi all,

Another hand from me...
I had the AK in the small blind.. co raises preflop. I reraise (standard i think) with this hand...
On the flop i have TPTK i bet half of the pot.... Getting raised by the co he must have A hit maybe a set...
Turn is Check check....
River give me the 2 pair.... but also the flush came in....
I was pretty sure i was ahead with the 2 pair. Is the bet on the river good or is it better to check and wait for the opponent?

I aspect my opponent have something like A10+ / maybe a Ace with a small card..
He never had some kind of a flush because he reraises on the flop...

BTN: $1.14
Hero (SB): $2.01
BB: $2.06
UTG: $3.14
MP: $2.24
CO: $2.89

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is SB with K :spade: A :diamond:
2 folds, CO raises to $0.06, 1 fold, Hero raises to $0.18, 1 fold, CO calls $0.12

Flop: ($0.38) 4  9 :club: A :spade: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.20, CO raises to $0.71, Hero calls $0.51

Turn: ($1.80) 8  (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks

River: ($1.80) K  (2 players)
Hero bets $1.12 all in, CO calls $1.12

flop - his size is big, I guess we can consider folding.

If we compare to this hand:

Here is what aleen says about overpair in 3bet pot where the flop has draws:

I would say that even HU folding would probably be my first option because I don't expect people to bluff raise cbets in 3bet pots generally.

On dry boards usually people do not raise. So unless he is agro, I guess its ok to fold. Plus his size is big.

And you say AT+ - imo AT is even less likely to raise. It is a bluffcatcher for him. He has likely an air or some very strong hand like 2pair+

Turn he checks. Maybe it was a bluff on flop.

On river - if he shows on turn that he had bluff - we are not getting value by betting.

Flush is bit scary, but he is likely betting turn with flushdraw also.

I guess it migth be good to x/c river or x/f. He also could decide to slowplay turn for some reason.

But on the other hand - by raising this flop he shows that he is weak player. So his line can be anything probably :) still biggest indicator is big raise size on flop that its not good for us.

I guess its close decition between all ways to play it.

How aggro villain is can define our line here.
This raise is really strange. If its a tight guy I can consider folding right here. Still, no reason for a great hand to raise on this flop.

Villains raise on a dry board is weird but I would still call it with TPTK. Since villain took an aggressive line OTF I think we could get the max value/lose the minimum if we check and let him continue bluffing if he has a bluff. If he bluffed OTF he can't call our river bet. So by betting when flush completes and there is another big card we are just narrowing his range too much.

Will you call if you check river?

I think betting river is by a slight margin the best vs unknown.

They reasonable have at least a little something when they raise flop, like J♠:J♣: or T♦:9♦:. They might call river with these. To be honest, we may be fried too. Sets are possible, and since we have only a 2/3 pot bet left, checking behind turn does make a little sense.

We are certainly not folding if we check.

I see a common advice is to fold a TPTK at nl2 already otf. Don't do that, sir.

+1

The problem with the advice is that it is unconditional, like the "Baluga Theorem" for turn. Poker basics are forgotten, beginning with pot odds, position, stack sizes, and the board layout.

tnx for all the answers. Indeed it is hard to know witch advise you should follow and witch not....

For me personal it is hard to fold TPTK. And on the river with 2 pair it is even harder...
But in the end i played it ok and my reading line was good...:f_cool:

The result of the hand is below..

Final Pot: $4.04
Hero shows K :spade: A :diamond: (two pair, Aces and Kings)
CO shows A  J :club: (a pair of Aces)
Hero wins $3.90
(Rake: $0.14)

It is sometimes a snap fold, sometimes a snap call and sometimes (like this time) difficult to decide. Pot odds and board go first. Also, people do bluff, and people do make mistaken value raises (like presumably here). So don't fold to easily to small raises. This raise isn't small, but I'd call it anyway for other reasons. It is quite usual, and probably a good play, to wait until turn with flopped sets, especially IP, because the board is dry. Then there's a tendency for people to "raise to see where they stand" with mediocre hands like JJ or a bad A. (That, by the way, is a bad play, but not as bad as people think because of side effects.)

I think it is a weak line from opponent Raise flop and Check turn in 3B pot. It may be sometimes JJ-QQ, your opponent could be tired by your 3B preflop and decided to give you a repulse. KK would 4B shove preflop, so he could have a lot of AX hands.

I think that u can't fold to this raise. He might raise Ax, sets, two pairs, maybe some pockets and air - when u play on nl2 and don't know ur opponent well, you have to give him a wide range - not only nuts.
On the turn he x which gives u info that he don't have any sets, cause he would bet it again very often also two pairs should bet it. So ur hand is prbl better.
I think that on the R x/calling is better. The reason is that ure giving him an opportunity to bluff.

Yes that was my plan. I thought that if we bet we fold out too much hands from his range. When we check and appear weak I think he will often bet there with all the bluffs he might have OTF.
