As I have started the bankroll challenge already but Im still need to post (or create as you prefer) the personal blog for it Im hoping you do not mind if I abuse of your space to take some doubt out my mind

I got this hand here, the thinking processing is very easy, as the flop showed I have one and only option in my head, go broke with this hand

Spoiler

IPoker, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

SB: $2.05 (102.5 bb)
Hero (BB): $2.07 (103.5 bb)
UTG: $2.46 (123 bb)
MP: $2 (100 bb)
CO: $4.81 (240.5 bb)
BTN: $3.48 (174 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J 8
4 folds, SB raises to $0.05, Hero calls $0.03

Flop: ($0.10) Q T 7 (2 players)
SB bets $0.08, Hero raises to $0.24, SB calls $0.16

Turn: ($0.58) 6 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.50, SB raises to $1.30, Hero raises to $1.78, SB calls $0.46

River: ($4.10) K (2 players)

Now, the only part of the range of villain that beat me is some Ax of heart and some Kh that may be in his range but with Q and T on the board and as I got the J seems unlikely this last option, so we are left vs AX heart that tbo with already 5 hearts on the flop the card removal effect should suggesting that there is more stuff I beat then stuff that over-take me

as we are BvB I also evaluate that the range of SB would be likely this:

22+,A2s+,K2s+,Q4s+,J7s+,T7s+,97s+,86s+,75s+,64s+,54s,A7o+,K9o+,Q9o+,J9o+,T9o,98o

now, on the flop we got such scenario

Board: Q♥T♥7♥
       Equity     Win     Tie
MP2    91.22%  91.22%   0.00% { Jh8h }
MP3     8.78%   8.78%   0.00% { 22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q4s+, J7s+, T7s+, 97s+, 86s+, 75s+, 64s+, 54s, A7o+, K9o+, Q9o+, J9o+, T9o, 98o }

and tbo I do not go to fold, or other then try to go broke
as villain got to many straights, TP, 2 pairs, etc.

while, other then the flush already close for Hero, still can improve in a nutz royal straight, I don't think I can never fold or play this hand less aggressive due the fact that I want try to capitalize to the max out of this hand

Does my thinking processing and the way I played the hand is of any good or I have made a mistake somewhere?

Thanks :f_smile:

Well played, as you said, we have outs :]
flop is a possible call on higher stakes, but I'd play the hand exactly the same way at NL2+NL5

Just getting back into cash games again, I've been watching all of this entertaining series. Kudos to you sir, all the concepts are well-explained and I also like the small adjustments to the Beginner strategy that you introduced in Lesson 4. eg It's obvious that bet 2/3 pot on all 3 streets with top pair won't be a good idea with some opponents, defending a bit more than Beginner charts from the BB against steals, cbetting smaller on some boards, certain flops shouldn't be cbet, thin value on river etc etc.

Also, it's important to watch each video a few times, because you'll pick up subtle things missed on first viewing.

I've only played approx. 3,000 hands so far, but IMO there is no way anyone can lose over a decent sample in 2NL or 5NL if the strategy is applied correctly.

On to Beyond the First Strategy!

Great course - are the starting hands available as text files for the equity application?

Hey Worpler - they are not as far as I know, but you can always use free
https://www.pokerstrategy.com/poker-tools/equilab-holdem/
to to set up your own, which is what I recommend anyway throughout the series as you will be changing your default preflop starting hands tables as you progress with your poker journey.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but for the first lesson about preflop should I seek out 6 handed tables to play at ? What do I do at 9 handed tables ?

Hello, yes the course is aimed towards 6 handed tables.
If you happen to only have access to 9 handed games you play the same when first 3 players fold.
And check out other videos/strategy section for the first three positions but it should not be a huge mistake to just play in the first three positions the same as UTG/ in the first one in this course

Hello,

first of all big thank you for this course Lem0n36! I have started playing a month ago and just switched from FR to SH. The strategy from this course has helped a lot with the switch and I already feel like I am fine playing SH on NL2.

A couple of questions on the pre-flop strategy:

When I am in BB
- I understand that I call yellow and blue/yellow hands if the raising player has at least 50BB and the raise is to 4BB at most and is coming from CO, BU or SB (basically defending against blind steal attempts). Do I also call against 2 min-raises?
- I raise with red
- Do I also raise with blue hands? If yes to which amount? 4BB + 1BB for each player that called?

In any position with red hands
Let's say I have re-raised with a red hand and there is a big 3bet or shove after me. Do I go all in with AK and QQ? I think AA and KK is a clear all in but in the FR beginner strategy you would fold AK and QQ in this situation. What would you recommend?

Thanks,
Arziak

Hey
Blue hands in BB mean that if someone limps you're raising them
Yellow always call or check behind
I think calling against 2 minraises with all of them is definitely right as you're still getting great odds

And yes, part of the strategy is to always go all-in with AK QQ
It is suited for beginners so having this rule of thumb makes it simple as it is rarely a big mistake.
And the UTGvMP/CO spots where pros actually flat a 3bet or 4bet with AK QQ almost always and take it from there don't happen that often to complicate the strategy.

As you get more experience you will widen your BB range radically especially vs smaller sizes, start squeezing with a good portion of blue hands as well

And start flatting 3bets and 4bets with AK QQ when you can't comfortably all-in and you need to protect your flatting range. They are folds preflop only in very rare situations 6 max, that usually involve early positions and cold 4bets

Wow LemOn36 thank you for your very detailed reply! :f_thumbsup:

Now I think I fully know how to interpret and apply the beginners strategy.

On top of that there are several things in your post that sound very exciting and helpful and will take me hours to comprehend (looking up words in the glossary, thinking it through) and probably weeks to apply at the table. :f_grin:

I guess I will stick strictly to the beginners strategy for now and then take it step by step from there.
