NL100 - When to fold, when to shove?

Hi guys,

Villain seems like an aggro reg so far but I don't have a decent sample so can't provide anything except that info.

So A9o goes into my 4b bluffrange here.

He flats and because we are deep he can still have a really wide range going from SC's to suited Ax or sometimes even AK. I don't give him much credit for slowplaying KK+ though because most people ship it pre.

Now on the flop I see no reason to bet.

Turn is a must bluffcatch I thought...

On the river he bets again and pretty small. I though he could still vbet here with something like AQs or obv A3s, A2s, ATs. The only hand where I'm really afraid of is AK but maybe he herofolds that? Not sure. Well he can also have QJ.

I rep QJ, KK+, AK.

I was seriously considering a turnfold but I thought I would be way to exploitable, but really what worse hands are betting turn? Then we should hope a bluffs TJ or JJ or something but what are the odds... I also think he checks KQ and worse Ax. So what's the point in calling turn?

Well on the river I think a mental problem of me showed up again.. I just think 'allright I look SUPERSTRONG, he can't call anything'. I'm actually still not sure wheter river is fine or not. If he vbets AJ/AQ and A3 there with that sizing I think it's def. fine. I still think he could bet/fold something like ATs. But ATs is rather a call PF because BB seems fishy, so he'll also call TT preflop although that's close. So I'm only afraid of AK but even AK is just a bluffcatcher here because I can have KK, AA and QJ.. What hands does he beat with AK except for some crazy bluff from someone he doesn't rly know.

Hi.

On the river we have a good bluff catcher. I completely do not get why you would want to just jam your hand here. Just call and expect to be good often enough.

I think betting the Flop is a good option though. Given stack depth I'd expect him to have a ton of suited broadways which can float your flop cbet. Then we check turn and call River.

You might want to ask yourself why you are even checking Flop if you don't expect him to turn anything into a bluff (which is completely untrue). I would expect him to stab the turn with flush draws and gutshots.

Hmmm yeah betting flop small seems best actually but I was thinking that I could not continue vbetting turn so that's why I checked. But I don't feel comfortable bluffcatching either so yes maybe betting flop and avoiding we put ourselves in a guessing game makes sense.

Can you please give some combo's he could bluff turn+river with? I don't see many + his sizing = value

And what hands does he valuebet turn + river with?

I don't think you rep much here when you check Flop and call Turn jam River. Maybe KT and AT. And honestly with your kind of image, I would never fold anything vs you, especially not when this guy is a LAG and is probably capable of hero-calling.

He'll just put you on something being turned into a bluff, and snap all his AJ/AQ combos here.

About the bet size and how much air he can actually have, it's kind of a sick spot where I don't think he bluffs that much. (but sometimes you'll see some busted draws or QT JT being turned into a bluff cos it's pretty obvious that TX loses to whatever your flop checking range is) But still we should just stick with the plan to call down twice. AX is pretty much at the top of our flop checking range so we can never fold here (we have many KX or QQ type of hands where we can consider folding River).

But I just think betting Flop is much better. In general while I often advocate checking Flop in spots where we can't get that much value, vs a tougher opponent if there's the possibility of betting Flop for thin value I would often opt for that option instead, just to keep my range less face-up and more merged.

Well you have info on me, he doesn't. I'm unknown for him or at least close to unknown. I do not have an aggro image. I don't believe many players will bluff in this spot so I think people will never ever herocall AQ or lower two pairs than AK in this spot for so many BB's. I think checking flop with AA/KK/AK is possible because we block a lot and maybe we want to induce.

Even though we are at the top of our range, he doesn't have many bluffs. We don't have any reason to believe he changed Tx into bluff and with this sizing he probably won't have bluffs.

So can't we just make a 'nitty' turnfold and exploit his range? Well on the turn I agree we could call because we induce on the flop but I don't think he's ever giving up OTR with turnbluffs so that's why we could maybe just fold and avoid the riverdecision? We are not ahead of many hands anyways.

I do agree with flopCB yes!

Maybe you slowplay AA here but people in general are never slowplaying KK/AK. And if you do people will just not fold to your cbets in future on such boards as your value range is greatly reduced. I disagree that he never herocall AQ or AJ. The line doesn't make any sense at all, and if he has an Ace himself, you only rep one combo of AA. I think many players will be like "WTF are you repping" and call to find out. You don't rep QJ at all cos QJ bets the Flop almost always. So what do you rep here? KT? A2?

And even if he rarely bluffs the River, given stack depth I would not be surprised to see him value bet some worse AX hands like A5s. He should have those in his PF calling range.

We are going to be good 26%+ of the time so we are committed and must call.
