Why do you include 54s in your never call 3bet with? I find 45s more profitable than most other suited connectors

3 scholarly articles I'll read for 2014 goal setting:

got 2.5hrs to first action deadline will try to do it by end of the day. Failing to achieve goals while researching how to set goals was to be expected,

It sucks that I'm not at uni anymore - schnitzelfish talked about pointlessness of finishing uni, but for one free access to academic journals was a huge advantage. It was rly fun getting them dusty journals from 1980's and climbing through spiderwebs to get them when I was researching for my dissertation

Here's an abstract from one I REALLY want to read:

This study tested a framework in which goals are proposed to be central determinants of achievement patterns. Learning goals, in which individuals seek to increase their competence, were predicted to promote challenge-seeking and a mastery-oriented response to failure regardless of perceived ability. Performance goals, in which individuals seek to gain favorable judgments of their competence or avoid negative judgments, were predicted to produce challenge-avoidance and learned helplessness when perceived ability was low and to promote certain forms of risk-avoidance even when perceived ability was high. Manipulations of relative goal value (learning vs. performance) and perceived ability (high vs. low) resulted in the predicted differences on measures of task choice, performance during difficulty, and spontaneous verbalizations during difficulty. Particularly striking was the way in which the performance goal-low perceived ability condition produced the same pattern of strategy deterioration, failure attribution, and negative affect found in naturally occurring learned helplessness. Implications for theories of motivation and achievement are discussed.

Elliott, Elaine S.; Dweck, Carol S. (1988)Goals: An approach to motivation and achievement. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Vol 54(1), Jan 1988, 5-12. Available at: http://psycnet.apa.org/journals/psp/54/1/5/

For $12. I mean one of my brainstorm random goals is to make money from poker writing and I'm sure people that do so always buy these but ima doing this for fun right now cant be arsed.

If you know how to access journals let me know (do local libraries do this? Doubt in Czech Republic)

prolly he bet small I put him on a draw I guess?
and at the same time I was basically trying to rep his hand?
pretty sure my mind told me play it like AK which I can' rly have. weird.

Spew here was on the river - clearly told myself ima folding cause he never bluff there never has a worse flush.

However it was brought to my attention that I should just bet biggish flop shove turn to as he rarely has Jx since he fold a lot pre and he can even call off flush draws quite a bit

I don't like the preflop call so much with 33. Vs 9% 3better you don't make much money when you hit set and hand has poor playability postflop, even on an ideal flop like this. So personally I just fold these kinda hands pre to 3bets, especially UTG where my open range is very strong and I can still defend a very strong range without being exploited by villain. 33 is one of the very worst hands you're opening so maybe you aren't folding to 3bets enough UTG?

Btw, am just trying to be helpful and point out a possible leak, not attacking your play or anything, not sure how it comes across :)

yeah totally correct man!
Calling 33 is only correct vs nits that 3b very tight so when you do hit you get paid a lot more often than vs someone 3betting reasonably wide.

So basically it will never happen to call 33 postflop for more than one street, because vs guys that have wide enough range you should fold preflop and against nits it makes no sense to call 2 streets hence that hand goes to my spewlist.

I'm rly hoping some regs will see this thread tho and think thats how I normally play

Rly was setback now with the goal setting but things are coming clearer - will set up a simple doc by the end of the year do a proper paper on it after longer work etc.
My poker goal will certainly be multitalbing NL100 stbele winner not by September but much sooner, probably may-june time as i played a few hands at NL100 couple days back and the regs are the same I played at lower limits rly. And number one action point to help me reach that goal is replacing internet clicking watching shows time wasting habit with productive stuff like walking, reading books, meditating, hanging with friends etc.

This is what I got so far for anyone interested:

Poker as a profession can be both a curse and a blessing, and the main aspect that can lead to both is freedom. In poker there is zero accountability to stakeholders, no rigid schedule and no hierarchical leadership structures. This means that a person’s personal effectiveness and autonomy can fully manifest itself. In theory, if a person is disciplined and very effective, they will thrive this career choice Their life quality will increase dramatically as compared to corporate jobs as barriers and constraints for them manifesting their effectiveness are removed. Vice versa, if a person is ineffective without discipline choosing a career in poker will lead only to strengthening of that pattern, as there are no policies, leadership structures and rules such as contracted working hours.
This article will first examine why we should set goals, how goals should be set in general, application to poker.
Why set goals
According to Locke and Latham (2002) , goals affect performance in the following ways:
1) They serve a directive function
- Goals direct your attention towards activities that are goal-relevant and away from irrelevant activities. Students pay more attention and remember better passages in books that are goal relevant (Rothkopf, Ernst Z.; Billington, M. J. 1979). Attention is drawn towards goal relevant items even when they occur too fast for conscious control (Moskowitz, 2002).
2) Goals energize you
- Having highly set goals leads to greater performance than no or low goals.
3) Goals affect persistence
- When people are allowed to control the time, they stick at a task longer when a hard to attain goal is set.
4) Goals will make you use your inner resources.
- When they have a goal, people automatically use the knowledge and skills they already have. When automated skills aren’t enough people use the skills they have previously used in a similar context. If people never encountered a problem before, they engage in creating deliberate strategies that help them attain their goal

yeah man cant sleep was pacing around room taking out loud like a fucking rainman thinking about goals. Playing NL100 NL200 etc. - that shit doesn take me excited man? Its still gonna be the same, you get used to higher limit its still poker you still at the same level compared to people I guess just make more money? Plus its so arbitrary to set a specific limit. I make enough for a good living already aint nothing gonna change if I play 10 limits higher in terms of my happiness/satisfaction
I mean I do want to get a boner imagining that I play NL600 but thats hard to do it's still the same but higher. Imagining playing nosebleeds does give me a boner yeah with the fame that comes with it and stuff but that shits unrralistic and NL nosebleeds are dying out anyway best people hardly get action man so hardly an exciting goal these days.

Ima go to sleep now I got ideas of better goals, but setting BR/Limits you wnna play etc. isn't that useful, a general idea goal must make give you a raging boner want to push yourself hard as fuck. Tell me what you guys think. Im working relatively hard but not as ultra hard as I was in sales for example where I was literally running from person to person to speak to 100 people and break my own records. Suck that being results oriented doesnt work whort term in pokerz setting $200 $500 $1k days/months would be rly motivating but will ineviteably crush you as variance is so gay
