Pacific, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 8 Players

SB: $9.47 (94.7 bb)
BB: $11.57 (115.7 bb)
UTG+2: $25.58 (255.8 bb)
MP1: $10 (100 bb)
MP2: $4.77 (47.7 bb)
MP3: $8.73 (87.3 bb)
CO: $16.56 (165.6 bb)
Hero (BTN): $10 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with A A
UTG+2 calls $0.10, 4 folds, Hero raises to $0.40, SB calls $0.35, BB folds, UTG+2 calls $0.30

Flop: ($1.30) 3 5 8 (3 players)
SB bets $0.70, UTG+2 calls $0.70, Hero raises to $2.25, SB folds, UTG+2 raises to $6.73, Hero folds

Results: $6.50 pot ($0.32 rake)
Final Board: 3 5 8
SB mucked and lost (-$1.10 net)
UTG+2 mucked and won $6.18 ($3.53 net)
Hero mucked A A and lost (-$2.65 net)

The villain is 18/12 from 990 hands, 39.7% AF% (44/36 AF% on the flop and turn).

From my point of view, the hand is played standard until the villain's reraise. Here I thought a lot and the only viabile solution that I came with was a slowplayed set. However, why did he raise so big? Why slowplay in a 3-way pot, with flush and (quite unlikely) straight draws there?

What would you do in my spot?

I'd, for a start, call on the flop. He might (should!) see your range as composed of overcards and overpairs (unless you, like me, like to raise small pairs and suited connectors preflop). In this case, your range (as seen by him) is capped at exactly AA. Call flop. He should rightly see this as a great bluffing opportunity if he thinks you will fold 100% of your range.

Call flop sounds good. But isn't that bad for our hand in mw pot?

What hands will call your raise there?

Probably there are quite of worse hands that will call us, like flushdraws, maybe top pairs and some overpairs. I believe we want to make the turn card as much expensive for all of them as we can when multi-way + we don't want to give initiative away. When we get raised, I think we can be sure that are behind.

It is no longer MW at our decision point (or even that of UTG+2). Your raise pretty much screams out that you have an overpair. Folding all of these overpairs (and you prolly have nothing much better) makes you exploitable.

It is MW when we act because SB bets and UTG+2 calls before us. I think we also have 88 there and sometimes 55. But I also don't believe that the opponents put us on overpair and decide to bluff because we are capped. They don't think like that at NL10.

It is mw pot before we raise. And that was my question to you - isn't just calling too weak?

Whether it is MW or not is a technicality, and we all see the same thing in the HH. One reason for raising here would be the fear of getting bluffed out (by an FD or whatever) I think this matters little since we have position and he should be fearing us, not the other way around. Another reason to raise would be for value. On balance, I think this is best to just call.

I don't say folding is truly horrible, but it would be at higher limits where people really can read boards and ranges. I sit here comfortably in my armchair and note that your range (Alleen86 ) is probably capped at what you have. This is my reasoning. If you move up to NL50 (next step?), this will be of importance.

I think this is well played. I don't want to give the other 2 in the pot to call with draws (which they will, in 4way), so reraise is fine for protection. The question "will they call?" doesn't really bother me here; if they call their draws we get value, if they don't, they lose equity and we gain it. When he rereraises I expect to see a set here most of the time. He clearly thought he could get it in here. Good fold imo.

Chaps, his raise was huge! There is no way I am calling there, because it will surely commit me.

Raise/fold is fine, sizing-wise you can go a little bit smaller like 1.8$-2$, you want to make them error with hands like TT, 8x, draws, etc. + you loose less when you fold.
