Last hand in which we know villain does not have top pair and he has sets or flush draw
Because he did not raise turn i still put bottom set in his range.
knowing this ... is river a shove? i mean he might hit T on river so we might muck our hand if we check nehind

Welcome back;)
Happy to here about, that there will be a new coaching today. Unfortunately, not sure if i can be there on time.

#1

I have to say, that I posted this hand already at another place (but didn't get much help yet). Important is, that it's not just the hand that is interesting, it's the whole spot. I'm not able to defend enough and right here. So first some things about the spot, 3bet Pot vs PFA on low paired board:
I do overfold here (around 60% of my range), although I defend some Ahigh combos. If I want to defend more than 40% I have to defend hands like AJo, ATo, or backdoor FDs like KTs, QJs, JTs. The problem with thesehands is, that the equity will be <25% normally, so a defend would be clearly -EV. How to handle these spots?

Comments on Villain and the specific hand, I'll write under the hand.

BTN: $16.21
Hero (SB): $17.04
BB: $19.91
UTG: $9.08
MP: $16.00
CO: $13.82

Hero posts SB $0.08, BB posts BB $0.16

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.24) Hero has T♥ T♣

fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.48, BB raises to $1.60, Hero calls $1.12

Flop: ($3.20, 2 players) 6♠ 2♥ 6♦
Hero checks, BB bets $1.92, Hero calls $1.92

Turn: ($7.04, 2 players) K♠
Hero checks, BB bets $3.84, Hero calls $3.84

River: ($14.72, 2 players) Q♦
Hero checks, BB bets $10.24, Hero ?

Vs. Reg with 23/18/6.7, Cbet F/T/R 47/62/25(1/4), WtSD/WSD/WwsF 19/70/48, postflop stats not that save, only around 700 hands.

As played best hand in my range on the turn and river is the TT. So I'm going to fold around 100% if I fold out there TT.But, assumed Villain has around 15 value combos on the river (3xKK, 6xAA, ~2x6X und ~4x AK), he hast to bluff with >=7 combos. I guess he can do this sometimes with backdoorFDs in spade, but normally I don't think that the default micro reg has enough bluff combos there, so the riverfold (=100% fold) should be easy imo, especially when looking at villains WtSD+WSD. What do you think?

Turn: ($9.10, 2 players) J♦
SB checks, Hero ?

Preflop to loose imo, not a defaul call for me.
SB is a reg, 21/15/10, only ~400 hands. Postflop he seems to be more on the passive site.
As played, turn check back to realize our equity, or bet to fold out some better hands? I like a check back, because I don't think villain is folding out on that turn enough.

I assumed he was not a donk so i gave him a value range like this: QQ, 9d9c
Do not think he has a value shove with TT,JJ and QQ should get it in preflop.

Villain had a high squeeze when the SB fish called and he would certainly squeeze AQ there.
He can have 55 which makes sense but what "bluff or hands that i beat" can ha have?
Is this a nuts vs nuts situation?

Okay guys, next coaching (which is this Thursday) we are gonna tackle the broad theme "playing on the Button". Please post hands, anything can go as long as Hero is on BU, it could be the most simple cbet spot IP to the 4bet pot situation.

Hi double2,

I started to construct cbet and defend vs. cbet ranges on different flop textures + the best sizing. It's not that easy and imo a big topic, because of the many things you have to look for (sizing, defending just by calling or also by raising, rangeadvantage, is it possible to defend 1-alpha +EV or are we allowed/forced to overfold, balancing for later streets, and so on...). Maybe you can give some tips / recomendations / a guide on the procedure, the most important things to consider and how to check the ranges for their efficiency.

Here's an example of a spot I looked at, BTNvsBB (2bb open), SRP on Q82r:

BTN cbet range:

Spoiler

I decided to chose a 2/3 potsize cbet sizing in this spot because of a (small) rangeadvantage and a more polarized than depolarized cbet range.

BB defend range (just by calling):

Spoiler

(The original preflop calling range: 99-33, ATs-A2s, KJs-K2s, Q4s+, J6s+, T6s+, 96s+, 86s+, 75s+, 65s, 54s, AJo-A2o, K5o+, Q8o+, J8o+, T8o+, 98o)

Thanks vm in advance.

Is the Emergency Room project still active, what's next?:)

Hi Striker.

This is indeed a complex topic and it's not easy to find out solid answers. It's not easy to demonstrate that "this XX hands is strong enough to call, this one is probably not", etc. The naive "minimum defence frequency" (MDF) is also far from perfect in helping us out, specially when we are talking about wide ranges, like in this case you show. First of all, I'm not sure I understand what is BU's range pre flop, maybe you forgot to put it?

Anyways, your pre flop BB range is way too tight IMO, hands like Q2s, J2s, even T2 are quite easy calls against a min raise from BU. So BB has a very wide calling range which will mean that on the flop the 1-alfa MDF is not gonna work well, it would suggest that we continue too light.

I'm gonna try to give you a practical answer.

In BU you do just fine by cbeting most top pairs (checking some of the worse Qx is also fine). A GTO solver would suggest that we should check some medium strong hands like AQ, but in practice we don't need to (BB will not exploit this by value betting thinly when we check). 8x we can cbet some of them, with the better kicker, maybe J8 and below we should consider checking for the most part. Bottom pair I usually mix it up a bit, usually cbet it (a lot of EV by making villain's check/fold range actually fold its equity, and we do ok equity wise when called) Every gutshot we cbet. Hands with little SD value and with decent backdoors we should cbet as well, hands like K9/KT/KJ or Jxs/Txs/9xs with BDFD, stuff like that. We usually check A highs like A9, A7, AJ since as a bet they work pretty much as any other bluff, but has a check they have some decent EV given we might win at showdown (and this doesn't mean we call blank turn every time).

As for the BB, in this board if you continue with every pair and every draw you are already pretty close to a decent range, maybe add some of the stronger Ax (A9 BD, A7 BD, maybe KJ BD)

Maybe you should start with positions that have tighter ranges, so you can see more easily which board favours who.

Guys, tomorrow we are going to take a look at bonecore database. He very well deserves this analysis given hat he is one of the most active players on this Academy and on PS in general. Will be there and looking forward for some interesting spots:)

Thanks for your answer! (BTN open range is the yellow+red part on the screenshot.) I will take a look over my BB defend range, it's around 53% vs a 2bb oR (including 3bets), to be honest, I'm not sure if I'm on a skill level to play more than this part +EV postflop:D

What do you think about this hand:

Vs a reg, but not enough sample for some good postflop reads. Guess most regs are not checking back flushes (except the nut flush) on the turn, so he has a hard time on the river (imo his betting range there often contains hands like QQ-AA or maybe some bluffs (AQ, AK)). To spewy?

You can move up now if you have the bankroll, specially given that you can table select very well... But yeah, maybe work your way to 4 tables first maybe.

Regarding to a question during the last coaching, how to replace the screenname:

The trick is to replace the screenname (e.g. by 'Hero') in the exported .txt files (which contain the hands). To do this 'automatically', just use an extended text editor (Notepad++). There you can open all .txt files at once and also search and replace a word automatically in all opened .txt files (by clicking "Replace All in All Opened Documents"). Then just save the files and it's done :)

I remember reading something about a year ago that in this spot after committing so many chips we have to call, it said something about it being mathematically wrong to fold, can somebody explain in more detail who understands this please?

MP: $10.11
CO: $25.96
BTN: $14.55
SB: $130.73
Hero (BB): $10.23
UTG: $26.22

Pre Flop: ($0.27) Hero is BB with Q :spade: K :diamond:
2 folds, CO raises to $0.30, BTN calls $0.30, SB raises to $1.20, Hero raises to $2.80, 1 fold, BTN calls $2.50, SB raises to $130.71 all in, 1 fold, BTN calls $11.73 all in

Flop: ($32.28) K :club: 5 :diamond: Q :diamond: (2 players - 2 are all in)

Turn: ($32.28) 6 :club: (2 players - 2 are all in)

River: ($32.28) 2 :club: (2 players - 2 are all in)

Final Pot: $32.28
BTN shows J :diamond: 9 :diamond: (high card King)
SB shows K  A :diamond: (a pair of Kings)
SB wins $30.83
(Rake: $1.45)

http://www.pokerstrategy.com
Equity Win Tie
MP2 29.47% 29.06% 0.41% { KQo }
MP3 70.53% 70.12% 0.41% { 99+, AQs+, AQo+ }

Here is the equity calculation and the range in witch I believe he might of shoved, he was tilting, and I even think he might of shoved any pair probably some worse hands he was a bad aggressive player, I gave him a range in witch I believe would be the top of it.

My pot odds were 2.19-1 witch is showing I need to win 31% of the time, that range in equilab is only 29% so I did make a correct fold based on them stats didn't I? There is a third player to think about witch was a fishy player im not sure his range altors mine much who knows.

Hello FrozenElf,

There are a few problems in this hand in my opinion. First is: you claim Villain in SB was probably tilting, then why would you cold 4bet bluff him? It does not make too much sense to me. If we feel he is tilting and he will be squeezing and stacking off too light then we should only cold 4bet here with hands we are confortable calling a shove (maybe 99/AQ or something).

Other problem is your sizing, I don't think you need to make it so big, I think in this case, with position over him a 4bet to 25-26bbs would be ideal.

As played you can't call, even if you give him a wide range, like you did, you are just breaking even at best. And you still have another player that could get into the hand and he is no even necessarily capped (and his range is actually quite strong for cold calling there a cold 4bet, even for a fish).

Does this makes sense?
