I am not satisfied with Aurora engine, the old one was way better. However 888 Pokers new client is far worse IMO.

I actually go used to the new 888 client quite quickly.

Why not start a thread in the 888 board and we can discuss it there...

Have same problem with auto-fold in 1sec after quick opponents rise. I happend few times.

I have not yet noticed this.

I'm doing a fairly long session tomorrow, so I'll look for it then

I usually play 2 tables so it could be easily noticed for me.

Hi Vovan23mvp,
Wow! Thanks for that -- I will try it immediately.
However I would suggest that step #2 should be "Copy your setting file to a safe location" before editing it.

It works, and I'm overjoyed!
In my case, it was unnecessary to restart my computer -- and I cannot imagine why it would be necessary, but ...

It worked for me and I am a computer illiterate. Nice one. If it starts to play up in the future I'll revert back to Aurora.

Hi Vampiir142,
If you follow the instruction in this post: https://forums.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?postid=3200521#post3200521
This will cause the client to use the previous version of the table software.

At the moment, this works, and at the moment, HUDs should still work -- at least PokerTracker 4 does.

If I misunderstood your question, please provide more detail...

Pfff, hadn't played in a while on stars, just to crash land in this shitstorm.....

fun fact; the client actually noticed lag, and adviced to turn of aurora, LOL, obviously the options are gone from the settings.....

i made some observations and did some limited testing, and wanted to help out (at least some people)
i have a pretty decent PC (AMD ryzen 12 core, AMD VEGA as main components)

The aurora engine is running on OpenGL, OpenGL can run on graphics cards (GPU's) and CPU's.

i had the lag message error while playing 7 or 8 tables (which is actually not that much for me, i'll usually play about 12, but hadn't played in a while so needed to warm up), i did notice CPU usage for the pokerstars process jumped between 50 and 90%, i also saw my GPU usage being <1%.

i tried lowering quality settings to see some (but in my opinion way to small) lowering of the CPU process load.

after the comments of @JnB90 and @Vovan23MVP i realised i could probably test out which device works better for OpenGL, so i did.

- in the user.ini file you can "select" which hardware device the client uses for the graphics processing, the following might not apply to your system and be a bit different, but as long as you make a backup of your original "user.ini" you can always go back (i can recommend just making a copy and pasting it in the same folder, windows will name it something like "user - copy.ini", this copy will be your backup!) If your client doesn't work anymore after editing the ini file, just delete user.ini and rename "user - copy.ini" to "user.ini"

- for me the OpenGLSetting on 1, means that the client is using my CPU (which resulted in the lag because of overloading my CPU)
- i changed it to 0, just to see what it did, when i started the client it needed updating (probably because OpenGLSetting=0 is an incorrect value), after the client update i checked the "user.ini" file and the setting now is OpenGlSetting=4. But most importantly, now it is using my GPU for handling the client.

Because every PC is different (mostly) i don't know what you should use, but basicly is you have a gaming videocard, that is usually the better piece of hardware for OpenGL and then i would recommend using GPU, on the other side if you have a crappy old laptop your CPU is prob better then the GPU and then CPU would be the better pick. The best advice is probably to test out both settings, and choose the setting that has the lowest load (obviously check CPU load when using CPU, vs GPU load if using GPU)

In my system i went from 50-90% load on my CPU (and <1% on GPU) to 20% load on GPU (and <10% on CPU), so i am gonna assume my lag is gone (i'll know after my session tomorrow)

FWIW: i completely agree with all the previous posters about this being an incredible dumb "update" and Pokerstars should at the minimum have a setting in the menu where we can choose which device is being used by the client (i'm already making several assumptions, like they want to only use aurora in the future).
They are recommending people to buy new pc's while it maybe can be fixed by using the correct settings (this is F'ing crazy in my opinion), because for me OpenGLSetting=4 works better for me then OpenGLSettings=1, but for @JnB90 it's the other way around (this is because i have a Top Tier GPU which is way better in OpenGL then my, pretty powerful, CPU)
@p3kki; i think your OpenGLSetting=1, try out the 4 setting, it should leverage the 2080 and i think the problems are gone for you then, imagine support telling you to upgrade because your PC is not up to spec.... LOL

anyways i hope it helps at least a few players, i am no developer or coder or whatever, just a guy who tinkers with PC's now and then, but stars developers are getting paid to make working software and this is just ridiculous from a user point of view. We can't really expect support to know all this pretty advanced tech stuff (just like we can't expect it from the users), but come on, this is about as badly organised as the handling of the current pandemic :/

Let's hope tomorrow's session is about 10x the volume of today, because today was just a waste of time here....

Cheers and GL on the tables!

TLDR:
OpenGLSetting=1, client uses CPU
OpenGLSetting=4, client uses GPU

(Edit was to put the TLDR in the bottom)

I've never needed to do this, but I tried today using several methods and found I could not.

I'm also going to need to re-do my notes -- several of my notes run more then 5 lines, and that is all you get in the new graphics.
you can scroll the notes window, but you cannot enlarge it. In the old engine you could pop it out

Be sure to contact support and complain

Thank you Vorpal. I will write to them

Thanks ariebombarie!
Do you have documentation for this?
I'm curious to see what happens with:
OpenGLSetting=2
OpenGLSetting=3

btw, nice rig.
I have a 7yr old i7 but 16GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 960 so I should be able to handle the GPU setting.
I'll have a look at CPU load and GPU load on both settings.

Cheers,

thx mate!

although i do not play there nowadays i am curious so i gave it a try!
at 1st in my user.ini it said: OpenGLSetting=100 so i set it to 400 and it worked ;)

i got and old PC (i5-4670 (4 core 3.4Mhz), 16Gb (1600Mhz) RAM, gtx1660) but never recognised any lag on PS so far.
i opened 12 tables and chechked how they perform:

on the old client it uses: 2-5% of CPU and 0% GPU
aurora with openGL on 100: 45-55% CPU and 0% GPU (if i choose the carbon (beta) theme it goes to 35-40%)
aurora with openGL on 400: 30 CPU and 20% GPU (no change with the carbon theme)

if i go back i will be using the old client for sure as far as i can. there is no point of using more of the sources/electricity

Your computer is actually quite reasonable for most purposes.
Thanks for sharing the data...

I found a document that describes PokerStars' minimum OpenGL version
https://www.pokerstars.com/help/articles/grphcs-upd-drvs/93627/

Also, this link takes you to a site where you can download an OpenGL checker
https://www.realtech-vr.com/home/glview
This is from realtech itself, so I installed it first on an old laptop as a test.
No issues, so I installed it on my main machine and find that my OpenGL is v4.6

I contacted PokerStars Support to try to get documentation on what the OpenGL settings are:
They only mention
OpenGLSetting=1
OpenGLSetting=4
But they provided no links to any documentation -- that is just what was said in chat.

Cheers,

On the right-hand side of the client, click "Help"
In the window that opens, on the left-hand side click "Open my settings folder"

That is assuming the clients are similar across platforms...
If not, use the "contact us" item on the left-hand side and ask in live chat -- they'll tell you fairly quickly.

let us know...
