As for that controversial mahjong round... I'm currently looking like a bit of a fool trying to get a heads-up Hong Kong rules game going at my network, just to see how that one works exactly, while everyone else is of course playing the real games. I came across this paying chart there:

"Fan" (better known as "Han", especially in the Japanese version) is the number of "value points" for your hand. With the help of the 1 Fan Prim's hand would get by winning through a self-draw which we failed to account for, it would be as valuable as the hand I had before, which won through a discard and also had no value per se, but got 1 Fan because I had a fitting flower tile.

But looking at the paying chart above: At least under those rules, winning by self-draw would be considered less valuable than winning by discard, so even if we count Prim's hand, it still wouldn't be enough to tie.

The problem is that there are no standardized rules to look up, since the game is not supposed to be played with two players in the first place. But in light of all that, I think we can let my win in yesterday's live challenge stand. :f_grin:

Yes, Harrier! This flower accidentally slipped there, however :f_biggrin: and the coffee came WAY too late :f_biggrin::f_ugly:

We had our fun with the Chinese games - and the Chinese food - but tonight, it's time for poker. :f_grin:

Primrose and Harrier will meet on Pokerstars at 7 PM CET for our first weekly HORSE race. :f_love:

Who will last longer in this HORSE MTT that allows for up to three re-entries? Will Prim take this one to make it 1-1 in the Troll Challenges? And if not, what will her excuses be this time?

We shall find out tonight! :f_drink:

I would play, but we're getting ready for a gathering of the clan tomorrow, so I'll just rail from time to time...

Okay, at least now I understand Harrier when he complains about his MTTs :f_biggrin::f_ugly: Guys, THIS was hard stuff for a cash player! Suffered an unlucky bust with A5A starting hand in Stud against A63ss (note: it was NOT Stud hi/lo!), I raise as short stack, Villain 3-bets and I get it in with my "acies". And guess what: Villain gets there with runner-runner-trips :rage: Wow, that really puts the Mental Game to the test :rage:

Wow, THIS was really hard to swallow for a CG player!:rage: People at the CG tables do not play that recklessly. Just told Harrier: Hey, guess why I quit MTT grinding and became a CG player? _biggrin:_cool:

Anyways, congrats to Harrier, bad luck for me. More luck for Prim next time?

I reg'd at the last minute and doubled up, and managed a 2nd-rung cash
I had to get quite lucky to get even that, tbh

At higher-stakes HORSE tournaments, they're way tighter

Yes, and now you know exactly why I decided that it's better to stop grinding Stud tournaments. :f_biggrin: What you describe is unfortunately standard stuff in there...

Poor Prim got trolled pretty hard in the HORSE tonight. :f_frown: She fought well and used all three of her rebuys, but in the end, the cards didn't come her way.

My ride was bumpy too, at times trailing quite a bit behind Prim, but I managed to take my first bullet to the end of late reg, and all the way into the money ranks, though I didn't get past a mincash.

It also turned out that our incumbent Troll of the Year Vorpal had time to play after all, and managed to outlast both of us trolls in the HORSE! :f_love: We are looking forward to hear where he finished, but congrats from the two of us are in order for sure. :f_drink:

EDIT: Nevermind, he finished while I was writing this. Congrats on your 2nd ladder cash, well played! :f_thumbsup:

This Troll Challenge has concluded by now, and Harrier takes his second win, but you can be sure that Prim will be back on his heels in no time. :f_grin: Our next scheduled poker challenge will be the Five Card Draw Shoot-out on Friday, but maybe we'll also come up with something else until then, poker or not.

Congrats to you both for the great result.

I have to admit, that I got pretty frustrated, being outlucked by several gamblers. It started already in Holdem with AK < K2, continued with running with TPTK into an overpair, could then double up in Stud, afterwards became card-dead. In PLO8 I had nut hi and nut low draw, eventually the river completely destroyed my hand, Villains flushdraw got there. The rest was just a big black hole until my unlucky Stud hand.

Well anyways, I guess my luck went where it belongs: into my todays CG-session before the HORSE race. :f_biggrin::f_ugly:

So, this time, I´m HORSE salami :fouet: :f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly:

It will be a while until our next poker challenge, so the trolls should come up with something in the meantime.

Prim and I decided that it may be time for our first Cooking Challenge already - probably the first of many. :f_grin:

The motto shall be "Cook My Meal", in which each of us needs to whip up some food that the other troll would normally eat. This means that Harrier has to cook paleo, while Prim has to cook "banhauser". :f_biggrin:

Rules for Prim:
- Her meal must be considered "banhauser" in her eyes.
- Harrier must like the meal, he will either approve or disapprove to judge whether Prim has passed.

Rules for Harrier:
- His meal must be suitable for a paleo diet (there seem to be some gray areas, Prim will be the judge)
- Prim must like it, it must be something that she would eat.

The challenge will take place on Thursday, unless something comes up that makes one of us postpone. Entries will be submitted here and judged by the other troll. Other comments on the meals are appreciated, of course. :f_grin:

What I've learned so far about paleo is that it is truly a troll diet...

With vegetarianism, which Prim and I also engage in one day per week, things may be tough at times, but at least you know exactly what you're going to get. With paleo, you seem to be always just within reach of having a decent idea for a meal, only to discover that this and that is not paleo either, so it's back to the drawing board. The lines are not nearly as clear as with other diets like vegetarianism and so on.

It's a good thing I've asked Prim about the cooking oils, because otherwise I would have used my regular Mazola corn oil and lost the challenge because that's not paleo either. Sunflower oil is apparently to be avoided too, but olive oil is fine, though I have read that there may even be some disagreement within the paleo community about this - which again demonstrates what I'm talking about.

Looks like butter is fine too, just to rub it into your face that you can't use bread.

I have still found something to make tomorrow which will hopefully meet the generally agreed upon requirements for the paleo diet, and will also be something that Prim should be willing to eat, which is the other point I need to fulfill to win the challenge. Prim says she has found something nice and banhauser too (in her case, it only needs to fit her own definition of banhauser), which should be something I would enjoy.

Of course, we won't tell each other what it is until we post our photos here. Looking forward to it. :f_drink: Though I imagine Prim won't be looking forward to eating what she has to cook this time. :f_wink:

Tomorrows menu will definitely Banhauser! Homer strictly refuses to eat it!

That is already the first Bahnauser qualification round. :f_ugly::f_ugly:

What will it be? We will see .... tomorrow!

Brave Prim´s Banhauser menu

And there it is! The menu Homer strictly refuses to eat and normally makes Prim cringe:

Scampi Schnitzel!

The breading was a bit of a challenge because it has to be gluten free and it´s very crumbly. The scampi were made in tomato-garlic-sauce with pseudo-cream (took almond cream). The Schnitzel was served with fries.

So, all right, Harrier had to cook paleo, and it has to be something that Prim would eat. :f_grin:

Those are the ingredients, I hope they all qualify:

Olive oil, bio-bacon, bio-eggs, and ground pork from the local butcher shop, a small family-owned business. I have to add all that because apparently, the origin of the meat is a factor too for paleo.

Of course, I got so used to opening the cupboard after getting my frying pans ready and pouring my Mazola corn oil in them that I automatically did it right away yet again, without thinking. :f_biggrin: Luckily I caught it before putting the meat in, and I wiped it all off with some kitchen towels.

Here's the pork, frying in the proper olive oil. Should have used the bigger pan, but the eggs needed a lot of space too.

The eggs were frying in my crumpet rings again to get a good patty shape.

And bacon is bacon.

As for the final result, I got inspired by those "sausage muffins" I made recently, and created a new breakfast meal that I would like to call "I Wish I Had Bread":

A perfectly toasted English muffin sandwich filled with ground pork patties, eggs and bacon, but without the English muffin because it's not paleo.

It was pretty good, but I wish I had some bread to go with it - which in fact I had, but... it's not paleo. :f_grin:

Hope you like it, Prim! :f_drink:
