Not only that, I was actually the one who busted her out. It was a three-way pot where I had buried aces, I think she had split queens and our second opponent had split kings. I don't have the hand saved, but if I remember correctly, I hit something else on 7th street too, and I may have needed it at that point, even though I was ahead on 5th, when we all went all-in.

I've seen GJReggie in almost all of those satties so far, and she would sometimes just reg for the target tournament too, even after losing the satties. I'm not sure if I have been to her streams before, but definitely not recently, because I haven't visited Twitch altogether in months. Maybe I should have another look soon.

Spraggy, who is another Team Pokerstars player, was also in the Razz last Thursday, for which I qualified. I do remember checking some of his streams out last winter.

I regged one $2.20 satty to the "Snowman" (Stud8) really late today against my better judgment, and managed to get some early scoops to get me going. Still, I didn't want to miss my chance in the $3.30 satty that I originally intended to play, so I regged for that one too. In my understanding, you can bag the value of your seat in T$ if you satty into a tournament you already qualified for? Please correct me if I'm wrong about that.

It didn't get that far, because I wasn't really all that focused in the $3.30 satty, with the other one going quite well. This one delivered, though:

Even if they pay for the tickets out of their own pocket, I expect most of the Team Pokerstars players would have some cash to burn for some small "adventures" every now and then, especially if it makes good streaming material or promotes a certain tournament.

That was a really close shave...

We barely finished ITM in the Snowman, which is also the session saver for tonight, because Badugi bricked. It's hard to keep your focus with those other big tourneys going on.

As you can see from the chip graph, there was potential for much more. Sometimes the run-outs were really bad, but towards the end, I think I just plainly showed some nerves too, especially against some bigstack bullies that I met right after a table change.

Still, I'm very glad I got the cash at all, that was really important.

There is this big 8-Game tournament tomorrow called the "Tarantula" (no spider pics please - big arachnophobe here). It can be considered the grand finale, since it combines all the games from the tournaments under the week, and it has twice the buy-in and guarenteed prize pool compared to any of them.

The satties will be twice as expensive too, but I think I will try the $4.40 at least, even though the Octopus on Stars may be a more suitable 8-Game tournament, with it being a PKO and all. I kind of wish the Snowman tonight would have been a PKO, as I managed to knock out quite a few players early on.

For now, I just need to unwind after that exciting run.

This happened early on, after getting trolled by some bad runouts with my hands before. I was mostly going for the low, but after getting my draw on 4th street, I got a passable two pair hand instead, which is looking at a very possible straight or flush. The pot got inflated without mercy, and I did get my low in the end - but a vulnerable one.

Would it be good enough? I could hear my heart pounding, I knew that it would be very difficult to come back if I lost here.

Badugi bricked as well, we got into a good spot where we were ahead while drawing, and hit our draw at the same time our opponent hit a better one.

Quite disappointing day, but on the bright side, I really like those new mixed games tournaments. I will continue to play the satties on most days except Tuesday, and after a month or so, we should have a good idea where we stand. Today's results may have sucked, but other than that, we're doing great in there, aren't we? Two seats won, one bubble, another very close loss and even a cash in a target tournament - not bad for the first week, I would have expected to take up to a month to see those kinds of results.

Those games were just what we need to rejuvenate the grind, and I am looking forward to my return to the tables next week, starting with the Snow Fest (2-7 TD) tomorrow.

Thank you. Yes, it was close, and I should have made more out of it, but I'm just really glad I got the cash at all.

As for 2-7 Triple Draw... I'm really not sure about that game. I haven't really mentally mastered it, I believe. Eventually, I just get so tired of folding that I end up playing some nonsense. Or I overplay not so good hands because I figure it's the best I'm going to get - only for me to genuinely end up getting what I was waiting for all this time in the next hand, except I hardly have any chips anymore.

I can have similar problems in Razz, but tend to avoid them in my main game Badugi. Maybe it's because this one has a more clear distinction between hands that are finished and hands that need improving. Either way, I should have another look through my material so I can get a better understanding of the game and think about it more rationally - I probably got a little rusty at Triple Draw by now, to be fair. Still, if there was one game from the lineup that I was going to cut, it would be this one right now.

In light of that, my result in the second satty (first one bricked badly) wasn't all too bad... but I didn't get anything out of it after donking off a good chunk of my chips for no good reason at all to GJReggie, due to the problems I described above. Sure enough, I actually did get a good hand right after that, which would have allowed me a very good chance at a seat if I had kept my wits and my chips before.

What a mess... our next shot at a seat should happen on Wednesday, when I may late reg some satties for The Hunt (FLO8). Hopefully I will be able to keep my cool in there too, last week's satty also had me donking away my seat near the bubble after a good run early on.

Maybe it's also good to study those games better as well. At least you have learned from you're mistakes. That will help you in the future as well.

I should have a decent grasp of most games, but one big problem is that I rarely get any practice due to the lack of available games. It's important to get familiar with the typical situations of the games, I think. Theory is important, but it will only get you so far.

SNGs helped fill a few gaps in the past, but there were only available for a few games, and always with very bad traffic. That's another reason why I like the new mixed games tournament series.

That makes it tough indeed. The popularity of the stud games is really bad. Especially in SNG's.
Maybe it's possible to play the ring games, but not sure how the traffic is.

Nah, traffic is not really any better. This is an option I had considered in the past already.

It is quite common to have no tables running at all. And even if there are any tables, they will often not have many players, and may die down soon. Or sometimes there may be a single full table, but no way to get on a waitlist due to current regulations, so you are forced to open another table and face the same problems.

Biggest Troll-Runout Ever?

I have reached the "final table" of the satty to the Limbo today. At that point, the non-negligible consolation prize is already in the bag, and we are in last place on the bubble for the actual seats. And I am ridiculously card dead... I have checked, it has been twelve hands in a row that contained at least one face card - and before that, there was just one not really playable hand without one, preceded by another barrage of face cards. And I'm just looking for the first semi decent hand to play...

It has come to my attention, however, that the bigstack bully is entering with just about any hand - I have previously doubled up against him despite a face card in the hole, and I was ahead in that spot. Here, I turned out to be ahead as well against his pair of tens, but the runout...

On the plus side, maybe I got more out of the $5.50 consolation prize than the seat. Poker in general is not going too well right now.

In fact, I have decided today that I absolutely must include a day off from poker during the week, because it is otherwise very hard to sustain this schedule with my regular work hours. The lack of sleep is getting to me, and it is also affecting me at the tables. I should have one day per week where I can go to bed early and do something else in the evenings, apart from the weekends. Right now, Tuesday should be the ideal day for this, but this could change when my schedule may look different in the future.

Speaking of which, there will be no Badugi tonight, I will be taking a short trip tomorrow. Also, my youngest nephew will be baptized next Sunday, so there will be a little get-together where I am supposed to act as barkeeper. So we will change things up a little this weekend.

I was rushing home yesterday from my trip with Primrose to the Palmengarten in Frankfurt so I could make it to the later Stud satellite, but apparently, it wasn't running. I assume it didn't reach the minimum amount of entrants. And I even read the relevant Super System chapter on the train...

It doesn't matter, though, I decided to just take the day off from poker in general. I might do the same today, it is unlikely that I will make it to the Stud Hi-Lo satties, at least. Not sure about tomorrow either, it depends on when we will wrap-up up our planned get-together, and what will be left to do afterwards. I will be taking Monday off from work so I can hopefully have a quiet day for myself too.

I made it to the later Snowman Satty after all. Maybe I shouldn't have...

I made one bad mistake early on, but managed to recover nicely from it. On the final table, which was essentially the bubble, I just got trolled. Lots of nice set-ups involving the players with bigger stacks, which could have guaranteed me not only the consolation prize, but even a seat, and yet the bigstack always somehow lost in the end, even when the others were chasing. Then it was my turn against that bigstack with a decent low draw involving an ace. This time, the bigstack flips over A23, and picks up a 4 and a 5 on the next two streets.

Oh well, we consistently get some good finishes in all the Stud-based satties (Razz, Stud Hi, Stud8), and this one was no exception, but an A for effort won't get you a degree.

I think that's all for today. Let's see if I can take a shot at the Tarantula once again tomorrow after the guests are gone. It has even been decided that I should be the one reading the baptismal motto at church tomorrow.

I suppose this new tournament series is teaching me patience. I am normally a pretty patient person when it comes to most things, but not so much when it comes to success at the poker tables - I always need results fast. This is rarely realistic, and yet I have difficulties trying to shake off those feelings.

Aside from those mental issues, I do think that I should have a good chance to turn a profit there, considering that I have cashed other MTTs in all of those formats before, and in the case of 2-7 TD, Stud Hi-Lo and 8-Game, I have even outright shipped them before.

The baptism of my nephew went well, btw. The little guy was surprisingly calm, and I think I was the only godparent who recited the baptismal motto by heart. Another child who got baptized today actually slept through her baptism... I guess that made things easier for everyone.

My cocktails at the meet-up in the afternoon were very well received too. I would have liked to take some photos, but I was too busy mixing drink after drink, especially when some of our guests came back for extra servings. We were only around 10 people, but this was still the first time I was mixing drinks for a group of that size. It probably won't be the last time, though, after how well it went today.

It was nice, but now I am looking forward to a week with some more time for myself... hopefully, at least. The conditions for the poker grind should be a bit more favorable, in any case. They weren't great this week, so I guess I can excuse the rather poor results this time.
