PokerStars - $0.10 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 100 BB
SB: 100 BB
BB: 102.5 BB
UTG: 107.1 BB
MP: 120.1 BB
Hero (CO): 122.1 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 5♦ 5♣

fold, fold, Hero raises to 2.5 BB, fold, SB raises to 10 BB, fold, Hero calls 7.5 BB

Flop: (21 BB, 2 players) 8♣ 4♠ 2♥
SB checks, Hero bets 11 BB, SB calls 11 BB

Turn: (43 BB, 2 players) 7♦
SB checks, Hero checks

River: (43 BB, 2 players) 4♥
SB bets 30 BB, fold

SB wins 41.1 BB

on the flop i bet to make him fold overcards, because they still could outdraw 55. then on the turn i assumed he would be left with made hands stronger than mine, so i refrained from betting again. is this assumption reasonable, or should i even consider bluffcatching on the river for the possibility that he floated flop with overcards and is now trying to steal the pot after i've shown weakness on the turn?

Opponent is 21/15, 0 3bet over 33 hands.

I am folding preflop to a 3bet with 5’s. SB 3bet ranges are normally pretty strong.

As played I think it is fine, flop I probably bet 1/3 instead of half pot but I don’t think that matters much.

I would prefer to bet turn with the picked up equity with the 7 coming to the gut str8. He could possibly float you with AK AQ on flop. Then I would try to SD river.

I would continue betting the turn, villain is most likely check calling his good ace highs on the flop I dont think he folds those to 1 flop bet,the turn brings you additional equity, he could have some overpairs but I think his turn checking range has some Ace-highs maybe some overpairs like 99,TT and some hands like 98s, 87s A8s, A4s. On the turn I would bet 2/3 pot try to get ace-highs and weaker pairs to fold and on the river if called and checked to on the river I might shove all in because we can rep all sets and villain would fold basically everything but his own sets. If he has a set on the river he calls with Im noting that he is capable of slow playing.

When turn goes check check when villain bets he could definitely have a good hand but its also a good river card to bluff

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I sometimes think I'm way too πŸ”.
However if you remember the "call 20" rule this one doesn't make the grade.
If you play this 100 times, and make your set the standard frequency [1] , and opponent pays you off when you do, you still won't be in profit.

what percentage of your CO opening range do you continue with against a 3bet if I may ask?

2 ways
First 3bettor with a 5-6% frequency
I am calling 77-JJ maybe even folding 77 and starting at 88. 4betting qq-AA
4betting AKs and AKo. Calling AJs+
4 bet bluffing I don’t think is worth it against this frequency, and I am folding everything else

Now against a 3bettor with a 8-10 % frequency.
Calling 77-99 4 betting 1010-jj mixed.
4 betting all the same above and adding in KQs not 4 betting AQs. Calling all suited connectors 78-109 suited calling AJs AQs q10+ j9+ I am also now adding in 4 bet bluffs with AQo and most A3s-A5s and maybe 1 more bluff random hand.

Hope this helps. This is IP as well. Not OOP

If you're asking me, it is hard to put in such terms, since so much depends on who is doing the 3betting.

I can't overstate the fact that I am not a hold'em expert

However the "standard" ranges are
Range CO vs SB 3Bet:

This is theoretically how I play. It varies so much depending on effective stack sizes and history vs opponent
For example, I don't 4Bet/Fold unless I know that there is some possibility that the 4Bet will get some folds.
In theory I will sometimes call KK+ and sometimes raise -- but I rarely just call.

I think you could also check behind on the flop because it would suck to get check raised off a hand with decent equity I feel like gto might check behind if it has this hand in its range. The charts I was looking at last I think has SB 3-betting most of his playable ranges here, like suited connectors, suited paintcards, PP’s this is also a somewhat grey area for myself I am just getting into learning and understanding SB’s ranges, if villain is 3-betting most of their playable ranges then I think we would look at the pot odds we are being laid.

The pot is 14bb and 7.5bb to call

We are getting roughly 2:1 meaning we need 33% equity versus villains range. If he is 3-betting most of his playable range I think 55 should be able to realize 33% equity. if he is much tighter I’m not sure I’m going to play around with equilab when I have a chance because I’m interested in learning these spots myself
