If you're aggressive you bet big with monster hands and don't slowplay them.

Getting the hand started with an open raise is the way better play. That way you enable yourself to get a hold of the pot preflop without having to play further streets.

you lose potential value from hands, you have no info on other people's hands and you are not in control of the hand

because with a limp you never win a pot
because you are almost (specially in today games) be raised over and over again
doesn't make sense even do that with a monster to trap players as you may invite in many players and you will face a multiway pot
plus, in same cases, you preserve the aggression post-flop

limping is bad raising is better
with a raise on same hand you might get it thru

because it's bad!
normally too many players in the hand opposed to open raise, so you have worse chance of having the best hand overall.

I think limping is fine in some situations, but definitely the best call for a beginner is to completely keep away from limping completely. Reason for this, you need to know some advanced strategies to be comfortable with limping. Simply, if you're confident in your hand, raise, if not, fold. Don't limp.

-raising gives me a chance to win uncontested
-limping gives opponents great odds to call 1 bb only
-you let opponents know you're a fish, so they will exploit you
-adds diseption to lower hands ranges

It gives everybody a free look at the flop.
If the hand is good enough to play it's good enough to raise!
