$5nl Zoom
Played 1K hands at $5nl zoom so far. Maybe I was playing a bit too loose here and there because I was just one-tabling. (I only play 2 zoom tables at once for now anyway).

Now I am going to play 2-3 tables pretty snug for a little while to gather a bit of player stats and pool statistics. And I don't mind creating a tight image for the $5nl reggies. Well ... that's the plan anyway ... hopefully I stick to it, because before you know you are opening this and that in late position :f_eek:.

MTTs
I am not going to play a whole lot of MTTs now because I am just moving to $nl5 and want to focus on that when I study, and read some more NLHE articles. And I don't want to put in MTT-study-time as well for now. So just the occasional (low buyin) MTT.

Okay, so I posted my stats in this thread in the strategy forum.

Turns out I am leaking a loooot of money by calling on the river! O my.

But before you go all fishy this and fishy that, be warned:
When I hit I hits!

Ya :)

I played about 1K hands today after reset. Let's not only reset the Pokerstars servers, but also reset my game!

I think I played better. I focused on taking it easy :f_biggrin:. There where a few hands where I thought about putting money in but folded or checked. Also a few calling-mistakes still. But I guess it starts by recognizing mistakes for mistakes. I'm not posting any hands now, have to play the Micro Battle Royale. Will play more cash and probably post hands soon.

Well look at that red line going down like it should all of a sudden after I posted my stats and they got reviewed:
It's just few hands but it's no coincidence

Now, to get my blue line going up I will get the book by Matthew Janda: Applications of No-Limit Hold 'em.

That book is like the bible for no-limit hold'em. It is like the gospel of Matthew Janda, and apparently if you are a fishy like me, and you read this book, you can be born again, but this time as a sharky!
Hahaha and those fishies don't even know I will get this book!!

That book will probably serve me for years to come. I will keep playing though, and study the book at the same time. But if things don't go too well I will probably play less and put in more studytime.

Hi Pokamon :f_thumbsup:
Although this is good advice that I gave myself too, it might take quite some time reading enough material and coming up with a basic gameplan, and I am afraid I am a bit addicted to poker. I just have to play. Also grinding a rakeback bonus. It's okay, after creating that thread with my stats I think I can manage to at least break even, and probably win a little bit. If not, at least I cleared the bonus.

This might not be the most time-efficient way in the end, but it's also about just having fun playing poker for me.

Been a while since I showed a complete graph, so little update:

I know I know doesn't look good. Yeah go on say it ... fishy fishy fishy :f_tongue:

But although the results are not there yet I think things are turning around. I think I changed some things pretty drastically and think I've been playing pretty well the last 2K hands, just got unlucky cards dealt postflop. Although a few hands still too aggressive postflop, they are just a few, I'm learning.

Despite how things look, this will turn around, I am confinced in that!

I started to read in Applications of NLHE. There are preflop charts in the book, but I have to read a lot more to understand the (GTO) concepts and understand how to implement things at the $2nl and $5nl tables.

I also found some great poker podcast station in Spotify ... listening while playing, so picking up this and that, but not really focussing on the podcast.

I also did some (re)calculations:

The last column shows the average amount of times I should win the hand when I get called preflop in order to justify an RFI.
This would not be the same as the equity of my RFI hand vs the caller's range, because there is postflop play and you are not guaranteed to realize your equity. With weak hands as PF raiser, you often get only 4 board cards to make a hand (skip cbet). And there are other things as well to take into account.

For beating NL2 and NL5 you really dont need anything more than BSS articles found on this site.
And common sense.
Even my 10+ years old knowledge is enough to have good results on micro stakes. And I dont consider myself a good player.
Just keep grinding and learn to check/fold after not hitting the flop :f_cool:
I know how hard it is to get beaten from all possible sides, experiencing that on NL5 myself. Just stay calm and you will make it _cool:

Cheers! :f_drink:

Thanks a lot for support miropro!!

I need a bit more patience too. 1-tabling is not too good as well, I start playing too loose pre and post. I stopped opening a lot of hands now and I made tight preflop charts. This way I will be a lot stronger postflop.

Maybe I will add more hands later on, but like yout said you should really check-fold a lot when you don't hit. Which is okay, because you know you had a profitable open due to preflop fold-equity. He just called you this time, so be done with the hand postflop.

I am indeed beaten by all possible sides. Man, last session they turned a set vs my AA/KK twice and two other people rivered a set vs my AA/KK. All big pots shortly after each other.

But, will stay calm, grind it out, results will turn around.

Look, no more red line going up!! But I have been unlucky so still lost a lot.

I ran bad with my strong hands, like I said before, these are the VPIP-hands from the graph above:

All hands since start challenge:

Hands since we had that little chat in strategy thread:

- My red line refuses to go down, but maybe this is even better?
- Unluckily, I ran bad postflop during this part as you can see from the VPIP-chart beneath.
- Luckily, I ran bad postflop during this part as you can see from the VPIP-chart beneath, so long-term should be different. But ... will it be different enough?? Stay tuned ....

Because of bad results, I am dropping down to NL$2 until results are good. Bankroll is now $132

Oh, and a funny hand against somebody I had marked as playing monkey-style:

Spoiler

PokerStars Zoom, Hold'em No Limit - $0.02/$0.05 - 6 players

UTG: $22.37 (447 bb)
MP: $4.95 (99 bb)
CO: $7.89 (158 bb)
BU: $5.56 (111 bb)
SB: $8.70 (174 bb)
BB (Hero): $7.22 (144 bb)

Pre-Flop: ($0.07) Hero is BB with J 3
3 players fold, BTN raises to $0.10, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.05

Flop: ($0.22) Q 3 Q (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.10, Hero calls $0.10

Turn: ($0.42) T (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN checks

River: ($0.42) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.42, BTN calls $0.42

Total pot: $1.26 (Rake: $0.05)

Showdown:
BB (Hero) shows J 3 (a flush, Queen high)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 39%, Flop: 69%, Turn: 82%, River: 100%)

BU mucks 4 K (a pair of Queens)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 61%, Flop: 31%, Turn: 18%, River: 0%)

BB (Hero) wins $1.21

He thought K high with 4 kicker was good or what?? :f_drink::f_drink:

These are the player-labels I use:

In Zoom it's important to have a quick overview of the table. Anything that helps you do that is a big plus. So color-coding is visually instant and very helpfull in zoom. Having said that, because of small amount of hands against opponents they stay in 'Unclassified Reg' for a long time.

I have a process for this:
First I label a player either Aggressive of Passive, which can often be seen very quickly.
Then, after watching them for a while, I further categorize them:
Aggressive can become Good Aggressive, Nit or MonkeyStyle (=usually Bad-Awful Aggresive)
Passive can become Tight Passive, Loose Passive, and sometimes also MonkeyStyle if they are passive monkeys that only have a call btn :f_biggrin:

I know what y'all must be thinking by now. Look at his graph, what a fishy, this fishy will never make it in poker or anywhere else blub blub blub.

I have learned in this live that things are never what they seem to be at first glance ... either that or I am very bad at judging things.

So y'all might think what a fishy, and maybe I was, but not anymore. Y'all told me not to be this aggressive and I changed already a lot. And look at this graph from today. Have you ever seen somebody making so much monies in 1 single day? And this is only half of the day, I will play more even.

Hahaha ... y'all thought fishy will not make it ... but let me ask you now, now that I made it ... WHO is fishy now????

About your player classifications. I label them according to how passive or aggressive they are preflop and post flop. Tight or loose.

Red: TAG

Orange: Weak Tight

Yellow: Loose Recreational

Light Green: Loose Passive

Dark Green: Slight Loose Passive

Turquoise: Slight Loose Aggressive

Purple: Maniac

Pink: Aggressive preflop / passive post flop

Dark Blue: Loose passive preflop / Aggressive post flop

players change.

passive regs get more aggressive, manics become nits after having spewed off half of their roll.

thats why i now would use very few and simple colour codes:

regular and recreational.

Ah yes, I also thought about this .. would be good to make a distinction between pre and post, because indeed sometimes they are loose preflop and much tighter postflop. I did not really have a way to do it. I don't want to add even more colors. What would really be nice is if you could use 2 colors for every player.
Nice to see somebody use a likewise system. What do you play?

Yes this is true as well. Same is true for notes right? I think at higher stakes color-coding isn't as usefull. But luckily then you have more history with the regs. Maybe I should delete all notes when I (ever) get to nl$10.
