I believe a mixture of luck (+2.5 Buy-in's EV over 6k hands), playing on fri/sat vs more fish, a bit of luck at show down and being more comfortable with the strategy...

sc2zerker is playing more in position now ( but still in denial
).
Thanks for the encouragement!
I finished the beginner course (Thanks Lemon, that was great!)
Now i'm on a bit of downswing, nothing to bad, haha... but i'm back to -21EV buy-ins, but still got $42 ( 21buy-ins) So my bankroll should be safe...:f_drink:
I've been thinking about 2 things...
1) 3-bettinging for value
(if someone has a video or tutorial for 6max NLHE, that'd be great)
I didn't see much of this in the beginner course... only small tid-bits saying if someone 3bets you alot (more than 4 times) you can start calling them with high ranged hands as they are stealing from you.
I think i'm missing alot of value on defending my blinds, especially my big blinds...
example
utg folds
mp folds
btn folds
CO bets 3bb
SB folds
BB bets 9bb
CO folds
your in the big blinds,... excluding (AA, KK, QQ, AK, as those are 3bets/all-in)
You left with some strong hands like AQ, AJ, KQ, JJ-88
You should be able to 3-bet for value in this case, hoping for a fold, but if villian calls, you can play the post flop... if villian 4bets/all-in you can fold?
2) Calling range...
Currently (i believe lesson 5) mentions you can call with AQ, AJ, KQ....
I feel I could broaden this up that is for
example...
utg folds
mp folds
btn folds
CO bets 3bb
SB Calls
BB folds
range could be AT+, KJ, QJ or even wider in the given example?
Ofcourse, if someone bets from UTG, MP, ect... each position would mean they may have a stronger hand so your calling range would reflect your calling range (tighter calling range... perhaps there are pre-made charts but I feel the number of possibilties is riducouls... and each situation unquie but a gernal idea ( a game plan ) of roughly your going call with in each position vs each raising position might be good... (so charts for a vague idea?)
3) doubling up....
pokerstars has an option to do double ups... I'm wondering if I should particapate and every time i hit AA pre-flop and someone all-in, run an all-in if they want to?
Poker is about learning by reading what others wrote an told you but in the end there is only one person that can really learn you how to play good poker and that person is
Spoiler
you!
If people 3 bet you a lot, the simple rules stop and it's getting more 'up to you're what you do with it. You have to start to think and analyze why they do it.
Anyways... you do not 3 bet for value hoping for a fold as you write. Think about that one! ![]()
About calling.. I think very simple. You can call with a speculative hand when the chances are good you will play in position (and do not have ultra aggro 3 bet guys in the blinds so you have to fold those hands anyway). No fancy charts. Just common do not play out of position sense.
Congrats with your results!
PS ow... And T9 suited is a waaaay better hand than 56 suited
You can check out this series to see how your approach should evolve past the beginner strat

It's more about how to think than specific hands etc.

Thanks pdfbq,
I posted our epic hand on pokerstars... I go through my thought process.

I've created a poker discord server (an alternative VoIP to skype), mostly for the micro players doing 6max and 9max NLHE games.
Of course everyone is welcome though.

Hey guys,
I recorded myself playing some hands... If anyone has some comments feel free to leave them as i'm always looking for constructive criticism...
Also I forgot how hard it is to talk and play at the same time lol, so folded a couple hands due to time outs which would normally not be a problem.
I've been grinding a lot of games, 20k+ hands since the last time I posted my chart. Ive been focusing on volume and reading the board / opponents.
I've been experimenting with villain reads from HUD stats, it's difficult but it's the next step in becoming a better poker player...
I control my bet sizing a little better now also, I can manipulate the pot with 2.5bb - 5bb, 1/2 to pot sizes... It's interesting because at the micro limits not a lot of opponents pay attention to bet/raises sizes. They mostly focus on "if" they should check/call/fold given a situation, rather than looking at the board texture, hud stats and the bet sizing to determine what's really going on... This ties into the fact poker is a game of incomplete information. The longer I play the more in-tuned i feel with all the given information and i'm able to make better decisions at the table.
I've also made a goal to grind out 100 chests and make an 100 open chest video... ( 14/100 ) right now. It's a good goal i feel because you can control the outcome and it's motivating for me to grind more games. I want to get $150 (30 buyins NL2/5) in my account so I can start the next limit but that would be a poor goal to set for myself as i have very little control of when that could happen and would discourage me if I started losing alot. I do have $70 dollars in my account now. It's ironic that I have also paid $70 in rake and just cutting even is hard at times.

Well it's may 1st, my birthday is in may that will be fun ![]()
I'm updating my chart and remiding that I've made a discord channel everyone is free to join. I've also posted a hand for review.
Interesting hand

Personal
I just finished a hard exam on Tuesday.. I'm hoping I pass because it'd be very good for my career.. It was a mixture of law and physics(engineering) so the study for it was like eating glass.... now that it's over I have more time to focus on poker and other responsibilities... I wanted to wait until the end of the month, but I've been doing alot of poker study and playing.... I wanted to record my thoughts and motivated myself... my results are good but i'm starting to find it hard to start grind sessions.. What has helped to keep things interesting is studying and applying changes to my game. Ultimately i'm trying to improve to a point where I can do 30-40bb/100 at NL2... It think that's it quite the ambitous goal and 20bb/100 @ nl2 might be where i'm at in a couple months...
overall i'm very satisfied with my progress. In roughly 2 months I've gone from $20 to $200, learned ALOT and have a clear path on how I should improve my game...
Gameplay
I noticed I'm losing a lot of money from BB / SB
My highest profits are from BTN...
I've started to adopt a calling range/3betting range from all positions. I went through the following course it seemed helpful...
https://forums.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=424094
linear 3betting strategy from SB is an interesting way to defend SB. Also, the BB defense ranges vary widely depending on 2bb-4bb and the position the raise came from... I got a small sample of only 5k hands but so far it seems to be helpful for my bb/100
a couple other videos i've watched to improve my micro play was..
The Evolution of a Micro Grinder - https://www.pokerstrategy.com/video/43832/
Common Mistakes Most Beginners Do - https://www.pokerstrategy.com/video/44898/
bankroll
I'm 40/100 chest on my challenge.. except these football chests kinda threw a wrench in my plans due to the fact I have to open them on June12.. This leaves me with 3-4 weeks to acquire 60 chests which may not be possible at my current volume.
I'm considering moving to NL5, but I'm in the middle of changing my play style, So I think i'll stay NL2 until my calling/3betting/4betting BB defense ranges are more cement in my head. NL5 isn't going anywhere, So i figure I can take extra time at NL2, especially because i'm learning quickly and that takes a lot of failing and trying new things...
my amount seems to be climbing, I do have $20+$40 from my own bank, so $205-$60= $145 earned poker dollars

I took advantage of megaoffer15, and deposited $40 for a $15 bonus, so that's a nice free boost to the bank roll. I'm considering a withdraw of $60, just so I can say i'm playing with 0$ deposited... that is i'm playing from my profits rather than my personal money.

Well, May was an a really good month. I had a lot of time to relax without study. I'm waiting for my exam results and pretty much relaxing... I'm growing a garden, had a birthday, a couple movie nights so overall it's +EV to my mental health
Gameplay ![]()
Biggest part of my game is moving up to NL5. I just attempted this yesterday but its about time. I had a lot of anxiety and thought the games were going be 3x as hard... but actually there is still alot of fish and I can stick to what i've learned it seems to be profitable... I don't know if i'll keep my 6bb/100 to 12bb/100, it might drop a bit at first. I think I can adjust my play to this limit, learn more about poker and try to beat this limit.
I've been helping some new players in the discord I created for the micro games
https://discord.gg/dUKKrShbr >
It's interesting, I'm fairly new but sharing the knowledge I do have with new new players really helps me review it....
I've got my ranges for 3bet/call/fold more in-grained and have to relay on my charts less...
I've done alot of study for poker and I want to do more grinding and figure out NL5
Bankroll ![]()
I'm fairly amazed at my accomplishment of 1/4 grand (USD)... I find if I keep playing at NL2, My bankroll isn't moving up or down that quickly. The pros, is when I'm losing im more safe, the cons is it takes alot of grinding to try to move up....
$250 / NL5 = 50 buy-ins, I feel fairly safe with this.. I know it's recommend for 30buy-in's but I wanted to be extra safe considering how unlucky I was when I first started... Also I wanted to experiment more, hence staying at NL2 longer but I'm done with that for the time being
Also, I'm 54/100 chests.. I have until june 11th so a little under 2 weeeks.... I believe my new limit will allow me to gather chests quicker and also the football chests are added... I think if I place some serious grinding in, I might beable to hit my goal before I have to open my chests...
One very interesting note, is my red line is higher than my blue line.. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong, or if this is cause and effect of my poor EV from showdowns....
One last note, I started playing the deal when it reaches a high number (175k+), it seems to be alot more rakeback(5x - 10x as much) compared to trading in star coins for cash.

Hi mjez1,
Impressive progress in your poker ![]()
