On 27 January, German authorities reported the first case detected in the Bavaria region:
A 39-year-old male who tested positive on 27 January. The patient reported having contact at his place of employment with a 33-year-old woman from Shanghai, China. She had symptoms beginning on 23 January, most likely infected through contact with her - at that time asymptomatic - parents from Wuhan who visited her in Shanghai before she travelled to Germany. Both parents are reported to have tested positive for 2019-nCoV. During the flight back to China on 23 January, the woman developed symptoms of acute respiratory infection. The German patient developed symptoms of acute respiratory infection on 24 January 2020 and fever on 25 January. He recovered on 26 January and returned to work on 27 January, where he learned that the visitor from China had tested positive for 2019-nCoV upon her return to China. A specimen (swab) was taken of the upper respiratory tract from the patient in Germany on 27 January 2020 and diagnostic tests were performed on the same day. He is currently hospitalised and in isolation.
On 28 January German authorities reported three additional cases in Bavaria. All three cases have been working at the same company and had the same exposure as the first case. The three new cases are also hospitalised and being treated under isolation.
