The 3bet pre I don't know if it is too loose, but the dynamic ongoing against this player was quite aggressive already so I actually saw myself pushing decent Equity against a wide RFI (48% openraise from CO), no F3Bet and no 4Bet.

On the River I thought, "man if this guy has outdrawed me again I am going to explode". He has doing turn and river shoves frequently but usually had the good when I called so a shove otr would have been a hard decision. But I still rather bet then check-call since combo-wise it's the only thing to do. This is the "most competent player" I was talking about. But his leak is obviously raising too much pre so I tried to punish this here... but the amount of variance you expose yourself by doing this is not to my taste, we are always 3-5 stacks deep quickly due to our aggressive encounters.

After this hand I have seen him tilting hard for the first time, he spew off 5 stacks that session afterwards against me and then regained 2 stacks in high variance spots. So mentally he is not unbreakable it seems. It's been the 4th day now playing multiple hours a day against him often heads-up. I am not sure if I should play HU against him but I feel like he was a new challenge and it kinda improved my way of thinking.

OMG. multiple sessions played rn. That guy totally roasted me taking like 20 stacks from me this week. I feel like he made a lot of obvious mistake which I tried to exploit, but in the end I always ran into some ridiculously unlike combinations which solver could never fold but he always either had it or brought it in with decent equity and sucked me out. I have almost 10k hands on him so he is not on a super lucky streak but some tendencies probable and I am proabbly not aware of some serious mistake I could have made. I mean there is really no point in playing regulars if this is to be considered normal or variance. Or he was just better than me. He made some really interesting adjustment quickly after I have adjusted aswell. Like when I kept folding in BXB lines he primarily bluffed there (even in 3BP which is harder to defend), then I put more value hands countering BXB suddenly he was bringing value-bets only. His pot raises were always hard to call. When he had streaks of strong hands in certain weird lines I did not recognize I paid him off like a monkey like X/R vs delayed CBets with sets on straight turn cards, I mean nobody else does such stuff. Some mistake I made he exploited well and those were extremely costly ones, like calling a turn check-raise on a double 2toned structure and then bluffing river blank. He knew I would check-back most SDV and would reshove very strong made hands ott to protect my hand so that was my stupidity but usually people weren't capable of picking up on it, he made some really light bluffcatches in big pots. I will try to avoid him and HU, feels like I am not the best player on those stakes anymore (which is so odds since you have seen his preflop stats with VPIP 50% etc...).

Ugh.

Hey, thanx for the answer regarding that STD value - sure 300isf must be way to high, I agree - but would have been interesting to see your actual real STD form PT4 - to get a real sample ! To bad that you don't use it any more. Btw. I also have Drive hud - I haven't tried to search if there is also the similar STD there, but if you find it, let me know what you got on 5-6 handed 4c PLO 50.

Also, this is funny, this guy you labeled at "most competent" - If I recall you also played at the AUS-FIN site (me too - or I played, now I haven't palyed much at all in the last 3 mon.) But if his stats were someting like VIP 50isf and PFR maybe 30 (I don't remeber exactly - and NEVER folding to 3B) - then I think I know the guy - I've played to most hands with him from all players....it could be the same guy - My take on him is that he was pretty OK postflop - but still making some bad callas in certain spots IMO - but his biggest leak was that he had HUUGE tilt sessions like maybe ever 2-3 months where he just gambled any 4, ready to call it off PRE 100+bb stacks with.....I made some huge profit session from those a few times, but if he's playing hes normal game, I also considered him decent, compared to maney of the more str8fwd regs. But it also might be some other guy u are refering too :) - btw, my stats were also somethign similar to that (VIP/PFR), but as I said, I havent even been playing in the last 3 + months there so it's not me (lol)

PS: I was playing with him already like 5yrs ago - starting at pl20 - then problay we both rised to 50 and 100 eventually - not sure what he would play at the moment- but he changed his nickname semi regularly - and at some oint he was also playing pl200 (maybe even shotting/gambling at pl400 (like 1-2 yrs ago) - but I have a feeling that he never was a regular at pl200 - as he at least this year and last year often played pl20 and pl50, and even pl100 at the same time sometimes. Just a classic guy when you get a lot of history with one player....good memories and not so good, as it is with PLO. Damn- I'd like to get back to playing a bit again. but at the moment I woudl not be comfortabl rolled for pl50 - and I find it hard to motivate myself to re-grind from pl20. Must see...still might be back some day

My standard deviation in bb/100 over ~30k hands is 139. I assume it won't change much when increasing the volume, my estimation of 140 was pretty accurate^^. If I mix in the 5-card hands played it goes up to 180 (!).

His nickname was Assax3. Man he tilted me hard but this usually means he is good. Problem also I tend to label according to preflop stats but I should have known this is a bad approach and it would haunt me sooner or later, now I take a different approach in labbeling (also taking villains handstrength/positional awareness into account, so some of those loose "bad lags" suddenly turned into most dangerous opponents). I also changed my nickname. Yeah he never folded to 3bets but his postflop stats were incredibly well balanced on all possible spots like 3bp's, delay cbet, probing, x/r, no statistical leaks at all. The only thing was not cbetting enough and overfolding on static textures like paired boards, it was only possible to recognize with help of DriveHud2 where you can seperate cbet stats according to board textures. Now This guy either moved up or vanished, very mysterical.

But there were some other finnish decent LAGs to, like Lahiomainen. Like one of them I have played a while thinking man he is just either hitting everything or playing insanely well. He left too but a friend who also plays there told me he busted in several night session so I guess it was on a runner. Maybe he was just one of those guys, cause when they are winning big, they seem to be invincible and it is hard to not go tilt on yourself in some way or another if you keep playing them over a long period of time. Other from this there are actually no players at all on my stake I perceive to be better than me, which is actually very good news in Poker^^.

If you struggle to make profits at the lower stakes like PLO20 I'd just keep playing to a very minimum and focus on improving like theory and solver studies (for solver it is actually helpful to have some hands to analyze). Cause with an aggressive BRM it is actually possible to move up quickly and on lower stakes you actually do not risk a lot of money so if you go bust it's not the end of the world (like burning 30 buyin for plo20 is not ending your career but if you spoil millions like gus hansen it would destroy you).

Maybe try out this one:

It's just 65 buyins so you might do it within a few months instead of a whole years' grind. There was a blog about Blitz-BRM on Pokerstrategy, I have accounted the higher variance in PLO with higher starting rolls and higher move-up requirement, I'd estimate you would save more than 50% of you volume since you'lld be playing on higher stakes more often but you'd need to move up and down a lot and should not go on tilt easily. If you finish the first table you cashout 300 bucks to grab yourself some food :yaoming: ... then continue in the second scheme. You should make sure that you are at least winning decently at PLO20 over bigger sample (have a solid foundation you can rely your self-esteem on when times are rough), the rest you learn on your way and on a regular basis. If you think you can beat your field at all lower stakes you'd have a 50-buyin bankroll quite fast to play PLO100 which is enough monthly profits do grind for a living even in Austria. But don't quit your job before having a nice sample lol.

I hope you will be back soon and we can keep discussing strategy together! GL!

I could imagine my preflop play is not good as a default, lower ranks are quite bad in 5-Card. Since SB 3betted so aggressively 30% (!) I decided to defend it though.

Flop call prolly is a mistake.. Could not fold against flop min-raise though, I had nice equity to catch up (GS+BDSD+2BDFD's).

Turn play is a mistake aswell imo. Could not hold still at SPR below 1 but I think check is the only play. Aim for (SDV-)Realization and hope for the GS I guess. I got lucky..^^

Check-shoving the flop was the best option in my perception as I'd be up against merged trips primarily (few bluffs, almost no fulls). Looks still weird though to raise this big on a paired flop.

I recently switched my nickname as mentioned previously so I make a quick cash check and snapshot of my results since my last report on the BR-Challenge.

I basically played everything up to PLO50. Since adding 5-Card tables and losing big in August I want to be more cautious with the stakes I play and test out my self-developed BR-schemes. They could work fine up to PLO600and save massive time for midstakes (have not been that far yet though), there are some PLO1k tables but no traffic. My total bankroll is around 18k now but I am not going to play 4-Card PLO200 before I reach the 100 buyin anyways, I have been doing some PLO100 on my HM3 database but was quite unlucky on 4-Card (so I'd rather try to transition to PLO100 and add 5-Card PLO100 later on aswell.)

35k hands since August

Micros have high winrates but low profits

Very interesting your STD....I don't understand how the hell mine was something like 300 (I must check it again to be sure)...it feels so weird - I mean I have probably suffered SO much in vain due to it (my high VIP probably the main reason I would assume).

That nickname "Assax3" doesn't sound like a nick that guy I've played with would use (that Lahiomainen sound more like something he would use lol)...so not sure about the guy - but if I recall correctly - he also wasn't that CB happy...so you never know. Anyways - I still felt he was kinda a "fish" but his leaks were more like discipline leaks (maybe probably my own big leaks too- VIP 50ish) - but he certainly could play well too - So I agree that Do not make the mistake of labeling a player based on his VIP/PRE alone - I mean you would certainly have labeled me as a fish too lol - and I could imagine that at some point I might have won the most at PL50 at those tables between 2020-2023 maybe - at least when I put in more volume at that site (Veikkaus in FIN (I'm finnish)) - So VIP can certainly be missleading - but I would say that if someone has VIP 50 with a PFR under 20- then It starts to feel more like a real recreational - However- VIP 50% is a huge leak in ring games, I mean it MUST BE, not mater how you play I fell....and I always hated myself that WHY could I not manage to get it down...the discipline is key.
I also have played a lot of 5c - and YES the games are usually good, but at some point - you will hit an absolute SHIT run in that game and then you start questioning that is it worth the added variance - I would say that it's FINE, if you really are rolled for it (I'd probably would like to have 200bins for it. but I was always a hug bankroll nit, which was also a mistake (I had over 30k at some point, and I dint even really play pl200 ever....which was a huge mistake in hindsight) - I will check out your BR system - now with experience of to nitty BRM, I see the value of being able to use agressive BRM, especially at lower stakes.

Woot, didn't know Mas was playing in that AUS-FIN honeypot too!

You had the option to change your nickname once a year I think. That might explain why it doesn't sound familiar to Skeida.

Maybe. You also play there? Now you know how I get those winrates ... I am having lots of flaws in my game still, it's just a very hard game to learn but the fish help me to feddar the worst lol.

The best thing about that site is, it does not get much tougher on PLO100 and above. Unfortunately I have been losing there only so far :yaoming:

BTN was openraising loose and had 20% 3bet (but probably still 4-betting AAxx only, one has to be careful here). In the end I was flipping against his AAxx with AKJT8 pure ds and dominating the 3way stack-off. Ingame I thought I must have been close but actually I have been pretty nice favorit (!). I guess it's because my nice components (pure double-suit, decent connectivity ind the mid-high range whereas his AAxx were triple-suited and had bad connectivity).

I made a really nice bluffcatch against that loose regular who tends to play really straightforward and value-heavy against other perceived regs. He knows I am capped and he did those XR on turns and rivers several times to stop me from running him over ip (he is too loose preflop).

I am back in the zone after having some struggles in February/March. With my gameplan taking form now on several flop textures, I have put more weight on postflop play and trying to read individual ranges. I feel like this works pretty well. Some really sick calldowns I made recently:
