30K Hands passed

I decided to lose some as well just to keep myself grounded ... I was flying high as a kite!

There are some daily hypers that start with 6min levels (100bbs) and later on 3mins after late reg is closed. A bit more game there. Or if you want fast action instead of speedracers you can also just late reg non-bounty with 3min or 4min levels.

Thanks that's right. I should play other hypers.
I can't be focused recently when I play MTTs, so I do late reg often.

Ahh, there are some good and bad points on rush&cash and regular tables.
That's helped.

This is also interesting. Because I colored players only at the same tables.
You're smart! Really thanks:f_thumbsup:

Back to nl2 ...

5nl started great, but after that it went terrible (ev) :f_zZz: although I'ven been so lucky

Spoiler

I really think I would be better off at normal tables, but I also really want to beat this ... :f_zZz: I know I did some awful things at the tables in big pots, so there is so much room for improvement. Also studying my opponents in pokertracker would help a lot :f_rolleyes:

Anyway, I did some database-research about equities and I want to try some stuff out, but I will do it at nl2 fastfold. If it doesn't work out maybe I will play on regular tables and try that.

- Oh I did win some money back in mtts ...

Equity statistics

Here are some RFI and 3Bet stats extracted from my database. It shows:
- The fold-equity I had for each position
- The equity required when they don't fold (Req equity vs Resistance)
- The equity I had when they didn't fold, or: the % of hands I actually won in those cases (Win hand% vs Resistance)

Numbers are based on 65% required equity for a rfi and 70% equity for a 3bet.

Looking at the numbers I think I can open and 3bet a lot more, especially in late position ... so that's what I am trying now ...

I can tell people are more confused when you play more hands (I feel most do look at the stats), probably thinking I can have anything. I am representing more board-coverage. I can also tell having a double stack or more makes people 3bet you tighter, probably thinking you will often call. Well it's a game of probabilities right?

Most of it is a bit more aggression preflop (makes sense, because in micro fastfold people probably overfold pre), but not so much postflop. Willing to give up those crap hands I open postflop since the edge was preflop (people don't fold bottom pair anymore).

For comparison, I've been playing vpip/pfr/3bet 22.3/18.5/8.2, and now I am at 27.5/23.7/9.2.

Although I'm still losing fast, I recently made some changes to my game and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Confident enough to play at nl5 again. I think this will turn around. Being a bit less nitty, I think that leads to a break-even game.

I'm being more aggressive preflop and postflop as well, but I need to cut back on the bluff-raises and sometimes calling too weak. These people are playing fastfold because they want to fold fold fold until they have a hand and then they start betting or raising ... don't reraise them :f_mad::f_biggrin:
Well not all of them ... just the majority .... there are some more aggressive players as well.

Spoiler

Nice failure graph, but it'll be alright I promise

A hand for once...

I never share hands in this blog, don't know why. Maybe too much of a trouble/time consuming. Let's share this one:

--
$0.05 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
-
Hero (BTN): 100 BB
SB: 123 BB
BB: 104 BB
UTG: 141 BB
MP: 541.8 BB (vpip/pfr/ats/3bet/hands: 39/29/57/17/514)
CO: 100 BB
SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB
-
Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has T♥ T♦

fold, MP raises to 2 BB, fold, Hero raises to 7.6 BB, fold, fold, MP calls 5.6 BB

Flop: (16.6 BB, 2 players) 3♥ J♦ 5♠
MP checks, Hero bets 6.8 BB, MP calls 6.8 BB

Turn: (30.2 BB, 2 players) J♥
MP checks, Hero bets 10.8 BB, MP raises to 26 BB, Hero calls 15.2 BB

River: (82.2 BB, 2 players) 8♦
MP bets 501.4 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 59.6 BB and is all-in
--

So I 3bet this gentleman with TT at BT. He opened at MP and is playing very aggressive pre (and most likely postflop), and his range will be pretty wide.

He calls, Flop comes pretty good: 2 undercards and a Jack.

Even though oop I think he calls the 3bet pretty wide considering his stats. Mostly medium-low suited hands and pp's. The other part of his range probably 4bets/folds.

He should have missed this flop most of the time, but his lower pp's might call a cbet because of the low board. He also might call some suited stuff oop going for the check-raise-shove on the turn if he hits a flushdraw (or just lead river if I check behind turn), hoping I am firing with nothing.

I cbet, he calls, turn pairs the Jack:

That's a pretty good cards since it doesn't improve his range at all (only the small part that was far ahead anyway). It also doesn't seemingly improve my range as well. If I don't have an overpair or J, I still have nothing now.

I bet turn for value, he clicks back with smallish raise:

I called with my TT with the intention of calling any river (or check behind). Since I thought he was setting up a river-shove.

River comes 8d, and he shoves, I call.
--

Conclusion
I think my big mistake in this hand was not shoving the turn. I thought his range was skewed towards lower pp's instead of pure bluffs (which might be a reason to call instead of shove).

If I shove the turn, he'll can call some pp's that he will fold to scary rivercards which might come when I just call.

Also, if he hit a heart draw I am giving him a good price and will pay off on the river when he hits. That would be plain awful. Big mistake on my part!

What do you think?

hand result:

Spoiler

MP shows 8♥ 8♣ (Full House, Eights full of Jacks)
(Pre 18%, Flop 8%, Turn 5%)
Hero shows T♥ T♦ (Two Pair, Jacks and Tens)
(Pre 82%, Flop 92%, Turn 95%)
MP wins 197 BB

I'm running like this the last 1000's hands, so I have good hope!

For comparison, I switched my play instanly, only played 3.5K hands in the new 'style':

Good hope with this! I think I can still 3bet some more suited hands in position.

I think you are result oriented and you misplayed the hand postflop. Preflop i like it, against this player you can 3bet a bit more but its fine.

Flop - board is mega dry and you can even cbet 1/4. Turn you shouldnt be reraising as reraising would isolate you against better hands and everything worse will fold. You want to keep his bluffs (as you did)

Anyway, the better EV play imo against this aggro fish is to check back this turn card and call the river or bet the river yourself.

This guys has aggro tendencies and 500+ hands is enough to confirm that. You had a plan and you followed it but i would fold to his river shove. You got unlucky as he hit the 2 outer on the river but in general i rarely see players bluffing rivers at these stakes in these spots in 3bet pots.

Hi Sunrise, thanks for your reply!

I really think I can reraise for value here against this individual, it's exactly players like this that go broke with an underpair. (Still betting when the board gets dangerous I think to a lot of these players often comes across as bluffy, because a lot of the players will check in such a case. This kinda guy 'll be like: shut up, you don't have a Jack, I raises)
But against the vast majority of players here I agree with you!

But I like your check back turn, call river against him!!

But once again with the riverbluff: I think these kind of players do bluff and attack weakness often. Also in 3bet pots. They have to because they call so wide. Vs majority of players I would certainly fold and would have played pot-control from the get-go.

A private log

I recently created a private poker log instead of this forum to write down a lot more. I am updating it at least every day that I play. I must say, it has been really beneficiary already! :f_thumbsup: I am more aware of things and I hope to improve faster this way. I can really recommend having some place to regularly write down your thoughts and findings about the game if you are not doing that. Writing stuff down helps to remember, evaluate better etc ... if it's private it's more open and you can share all the sensitive information about your gameplay etc with yourself :f_eek:

Passed 50K Hands

Graph:

Spoiler

I am satisfied! Not with the results, but with how I am going about it. I am cutting back tables, playing 2 again, and taking more time studying/analyzing. It's going better now and hopefully it'll go up again!

The 2nd half of the graph is nl$5 fastfold, the first half nl$2.

Luck-bell-curve shows I've been unlucky with hitting flushes at nll$5 (is only nl$5):

Spoiler

May the next 50K hands show some profit! Improve!

Hot run above ev

Unbelievable, I should be down 14 buyins, but I'm up 4 :f_rolleyes:

Spoiler

This graph shows what a small sample 50K hands still is!

Since I changed my game about breaking even again ev-wise ... maybe you're supposed to break even with the high rake and build your roll with rakeback and other promotions. But I will try to become a winning cashgame player (if I am a losing one).

Maybe 200K hands will tell us more ... play on play on ...

Hey, Stackoffski:f_thumbsup:

Hey there!

Hard to say what's the average length ... I have had some time and I played a lot of short sessions (30min-60min), but all divided across the day, doing other things in between. After 30min to 60min I take a break, but sometimes I can start another session 15min later.

I play a bit over 200 hands/hour per table at rush (with autofold for EP-CO, goes faster). A lot of it was either 2 or 3 tables at once.

The 53K hands took me about 95hr :f_biggrin: 95hr and breaking even in the end hahaha .... (won some with rakeback and daily flipout etc though)

Thank you! That was very helpful :f_grin:
Sometimes I want to challenge 2NL rush again.

You know you can use your pokertracker-filters to find out in what situations you are losing a lot or winning a lot, that might help to beat cashgames, regular or rush. But you probably already thought about that ...

I have all these filters I made and saved to analyze situations:

Rush is going a lot better with me since I changed from playing with 20/18/8 stats to now averaging 24/20/9 (and some postflop changes)!!! I've played almost 10K hands now this way and ev bb/100 = 3, which I think is decent with the rake.

These are the hands that I played after the sudden change (nl$5):

Spoiler

It's short term, but it's going well and I feel good about my game ...

I thought rake was getting better at higher stakes, but I took a look at GG's rake structure and it's all the same % and cap!! It's not getting better at all! :f_confused: What is getting better is stuff like rakeback etc, but the rake doesn't get less ... I thought they promised :f_zZz::f_zZz:

Meanwhile, I'm turning things around :f_cool: ... starting to win finally

NL$5 fastfold adventure until now ... still $50 more to go before break-even ev, but I'll get it and more!!

Spoiler

Running 5.4 evbbs/100 now since the changing-point:

And that's with some bad luck in the strong hands postflop (lucky with sets though):

... Lost 5 buyins today which sucks ... I had to recoup for a few hours ... now it's okay ... Let's be honest, I am still running a lot above ev, I am still getting spoiled. I think losing every now and then keeps you grounded and (me) motivated, it's not good to just keep winning and all of a sudden hit that awful downswing, more evened out is preferred. But well, it's poker and long term means a lot of hours (but achievable).

Spoiler

Who needs hand-equity?

They fold 46% to my flop cbets ... a bet of about 86% pot requires 46% total equity ... so what hand-equity do I need to cbet? :f_wink:

I wonder why I don't cbet more often, are those all the multiway pots? I feel like I cbet a ton in hu pots ...

Wow! You told me a lots of tips, thank you!!:f_grin:
I'm trying to set those filters a little by little...:f_ugly: It's a little bit complicated.

They are just an example, maybe just do where you feel you are losing or uncomfortable ... yeah sometimes can get complicated/impossible, takes some effort! :f_smile:

Somtimes I also wonder whether pokertracker doesn't make mistakes with filters as sometimes things seem wrong, like mutually exclusive: you have 1 filter show one part of the hands, and another the other part, but then they overlap and don't add up to the total number of hands...

Luckily, because of the coolers, I got 3 Daily ThanksGG Flipout stacks and won $20. So I got 4/5 buyins back this way :f_biggrin:
