Goal go from tag fish to tag pro, and become a winner at NL50

I haven't updated in a few days, whenever i go on a bad run or tilt i used to feel unmotivated to post on here simply because it made me feel bad posting a bad session, i felt like i was doing something wrong, i have started to understand that losing pots and bad sessions is all part of poker, there no point worrying about how you run as long as you make quality decisions.

since i tilted $450 at NL50 i decided to take a step back to NL10 sitting with half a stack because im making some bad plays, ive done ok on it in the last week and played some of the best poker i ever have, i have also started working with the book TMGP2

here is are my results this week at NL10 made a profit of $161

I haven't updated for a while, i am going to go back and use this blog for what i created it for in the first place analyzing and correcting mistakes, i want to try something slightly different to when i first started and focus on one specific topic, to begin with i want to start with reading the board and our relative hand strength- how dangerous is the board, what cards improve our opponents range and when to slow down, and how the board changes our relative hand strength since i am losing most in this area.

So to begin with

Hand 1 - We have flopped a monster, however on this very dangerous board our hand is not a monster, we have a strong made hand, we bet, i think i prefer checking, we dont want 3 streets here and there are many turn and river cards that come that kills our hand, any club and 6 or 7 3 2 and an A is also not great

We bet and get called this turn card is a 2 and improves our opponants range A3 and 36 have now made a straight, we should slow down now, there is even more cards that kills our hand any A 3 6 7 or club, we now want to get to showdown cheaply, and hope the river is a good card for us.

We bet again and shove witch is played very badly, we should have folded to the turn reraise, we could have avoided this and got to river cheaply on this dangerous texture with some passive notions and kept there ranges wide and induced some bluffs

Hand 2 We open raise with AK and call vs a 3bet, personally i like this play, A5s has flopped a straight 22-44 has flopped a set and we have A high witch is a relatively weak hand and should check fold the flop is somewhat dangerous

Hand 3 - We have TPTK on a pretty dry flop on a paired board, this doesnt hit our opponants range all that often and he will check fold the most part of it, we should give him some rope and let him bluff, betting here puts us in a tough spot where we cant fold vs a reraise since the game is played so aggressively on paired boards nowadays, i think to avoid this situation we should check flop and go from there

I call vs SB here with AQ and flop TPTK, villain bets on this double connected high card board, i call witch is standard JQ is beating me, The 9 turn card is very bad and changes my relative hand strengh, Q9s J9s KT T8 now all improve i think folding on this card is probably the best line of play, we want to get to showdown cheaply and facing 1 bet and potentially another on the river.

Hi :)
hand from your previous post (AQ BvB) is missplayed imo, I mean 3betting preflop is the only play for me (+villain has 96bb so he is a fish? therefore 3b is even more clear in my eyes). Now to your analysis - folding turn is disaster, yes some hands got there but think about other hands you are ahead of (T9, JT, QT, some FDs, sometimes AK, sometimes AT... maybe he is valuebeting Q6, maybe doing osmething stupid for no reason...) so yep. Folding TPTK in BvB spot OTT just because its a 9 is kind of crazy :)

And your AK hand... 3bet bigger! what is this nanosizing lol as played, well - do you see people bet flop turn and river there with weaker? I mean just because you check/call flop Im not sure if people go crazy enough and barrel off three streets... Im also not sure if hand like AQ goes for value like that always. So I tihnk x/c x/c x/f would be preferable for me once I decide x/c flop with this hand. Not saying he didnt 2out you, I just think there are other things to blame rather than bad variance, variance didnt calldown ;)

Hello N3bojsa, thanks for stopping by your input is helpful

Yeah your totally right with the AQ its bvb witch is the reason i called at the time, they barrel air all the time here.

Lets change the it around theoretically, mp vs btn same happens i think folding the turn is probably the best plan on this 9, what would you say about that?

Yeah we should 3bet bigger i was just 3x ing, i kind of dissagree with you here on this hand, villain is left on the river with Air 55 when he doesnt hit a set, he will often throw in that one last bullet in desperation to win the pot, i do like to check my entire strong range after 3betting preflop oop because players just barrel especially K and A high flops, there thinking i have a hand like AQ, AJ QQ, JJ and im going to fold.

I can see you reasoning, and i agree somewhat, but this is going to be against a better player who is going to realise we have AK ourselves, and not QQ JJ and give up on bluffs on the river.

Its syphering the good from the bad, witch is what i am struggling with if im honest

The problem is with my game, i know too much and have mastered too little

Check this hand out too i also thought this was bad variance until looking into it a bit deeper

So i got to this river with a Q high flush, based on his play i thought its quite obvious he has a flush with this pot sized river bet, at the time i said i i can shove vs smaller flush's with brings up the question, how many smaller flush's are actually in his range, would you say this is about right, i had 81 hands on him so hes sort of unknown.

But lets say hes a regular he isnt going to be too loose in SB

probably 30%, lets ignore the other combos because i dont think sets and other 2 pair type hands are most likley check calling or betting smaller.

i guess this is probably his range after we romve the blocker hands:

Flush's we beat

9♥:T♥:- T♥:J♥: -9♥:J♥:

Flush's that beat us

K♥:J♥:- K♥:T♥:- K♥:9♥:- A♥:2♥:- A♥:5♥:- A♥:7♥:- A♥:9♥:- A♥:J♥:- A♥:K♥:

Its really tough to even call a bet vs that range, did i go wrong anywhere?

After about 1200 hands playing 4 zoom, im doing ok ive got 200bbs + on 3 tables, i feel i made another mistake here.

I put myself into this spot here, i felt giving his range he seemed tight, the river call was probably bad im not sure, but if i checked the flop back to begin with i wouldnt have put myself in this awkard situation on the river.

I need to remember to play small pots on very dangerous coordinated boards, other then that im really happy with my play today focusing on this area seems to be paying off.

Hi there !

For your KK, is there a specific reason for not 4bet preflop as deep ?

thats pretty good point, I also see where you are comming from :) Thing is - are you sure about that, or is it just how you view the reality? Because first of all he didnt have air, he had 55. And he did bet river once he did hit, yes, but is he going to bet even if he misses? Then other thing to think about - he might be putting you on some KQ KJ type of hand and he was beating that so u know... In my eyes he did bet flop small to make you call with whatever gutshot+ you might have and then bet big OTT vs your wide range and thats it... River played itself yes but Im not certain if he wouldve pull that trigger even if he didnt hit. Overall I like your strategy tho.
Go ahead and check your database, put in filter for x/c x/c x in 3bp and see what type of hands villains show up with once they bbx and once they bbb :) I believe bbb is super underbluffed.
In regards to your next question, MPvBTN with AQ again I probably would not fold aswell. But to be honest, I 3bet that hand close to always, it has better ev for me, especialy on micros/ssnl should be more profitable rather than calling and playing guessing game. Sure we might get bluff 4b but vs players with wider 4b range (5% of players at your limit, remember getting bluff 4b here and there means shit, they still dont do it often enough in general) it aint that hard to call 4b so...
Your Q8 seems overplayed OTR but hey, depends on villain alot. Like, I see way more flushes that you beat (J7, T7, 97, 85, 75... depends on how loose he is. If he is fish/looser reg then he might have shitload of weaker flushes, but then again those players tend to be more on passive side so...). Just ask yourself a question - if you are in his shoes and you have hand like J7hh, you pot river and get jammed on - what would you do? So there goes your answer xD I wouldnt be happy...
Tell me more about your thoughtprocess on KK hand please - preflop, then why would you xb flop etc. post into hands discussion forum, seems interesting spot

Ok, so if your plays dipends on other things than the best move to do, it will not be a surprise if you do more mistakes?
And I know that you know that but how to talk about a hand if you play a different way depending on your results session?

KK 200 bb deep it is a 4bet. Deep like that, SB will call with a lot of hand because ofc he has a better EV w hand like SC or good Axs. We want to take value right now.
As played, with a flop like that you could find a raise. 200bb deeep, BU call a lot of hand like 95s etc etc because have a lot of potentials. So we can easily equilibrate bluff and value. I think just call with the K♠: is good as well.

As played flop, check on the turn is ok, you have so many straight and flush to value.
River, actually I don't see which kind of hand SB could bluff. But maybe he could value JJ QQ but I don't think so..

I will put that into my database tomorrow and let you know its a bit late now lol.

Im not saying that everyone will trebble barrel bluff in this spot, but there is a lot of weak regs that think i am polarizing my range they think in terms of i check so i have a weak hand, i bet so i have AK KK+, they cant help it they probably mirror think, since they polarize there own range to this

yeah somtimes we will run into a set or backdoor flush, but the profit we make of the guys who just pure bluff, the problem is players suffer with tilt, and when they see this huge pot and there holding such a weak hand on a river after trying to bluff twice they just cant help shove the river.

yeah that line of play makes sense what you said about playing vs a GS he could of been doing this, so yeah maybe your right with this guy he might not have shoved the river here and its probably a leak on my part, like i said im strugglng to seperate the good from the bad players

Maybe i should encorperate more 3bets each time i do tho i seem to make many mistakes and lose it puts me off a bit, this is why im trying to focus on pot contrrol and how the flop the turn and river change my relative hand strengh.

Yeah Q8 was overplayed i think too, thanks for feedback.

Ok so for my KK, the problem is like i said above, players are more then happy to 3bet but seem to be folding way to much vs 4bets, this is why i have started calling preflop with KK this and the fact that im -EV with KK all in preflop, so im changing the way i play them.

On dangerous flops like J♣:T♣:7♥: or T♥:9♥:7♣: or Q♥:J♥:9♣: or 7♣:9♣:T♠: etc.. i plan to play passively mostly checking back the flop betting turn then good rivers

on other flops like 7♥:8♥:Q♣: or 7♣:9♣::K♥: etc im playing aggressivly with reraising his cbet the reason for this is because it looks like were semi bluffing and we get more action from TPTK over pairs and somtimes middle pairs

paired boards are going to be the same probably maybe call call then reraise might be better,

with that KK i posted i didnt mean to cbet that flop texture, there are 2 many turn cards that we have to check back and potentially get bluffed off a river or make a silly call, if we check back its good for a few reasons

#1 we keep air hands that might bluff the turn that would fold to a cbet
#2 we keep the pot small and get to river without being bluffed off since the action will be checked to us on the river most of the time then we can decide to value bet or check back

I think that SB will call the 4 bet oop with suited connectors is a bit optimistic, vs most 4bets at NL25 zoom from my experiance are either shoved all in or folded, he might set mine in witch case he has correct odds and great implied odds to do so, so in theory isnt making a mistake. What if villain 5bets? We are crushed and going to lose 200bb.

By calling we have position, we have deception, he wont think we have an over pair when its Q high and he has AQ or K high and he has AK, i believe we gain more by calling preflop

on a final note, im not playing differently based on my last session, i always 4bet KK here to get a fold, only to be shoved by AA, so what is the point? here check this graph, this is my experiance with KK all in preflop over the course of 300 thousand hands.

Now here is my graph from where i called a preflop 3bet with KK

The last loss was that KK hand i played erlier iwth the bad river call

As you can see this isnt based on one session, its based on my career playing KK all in preflop, for me it is not profitable

If i 4bet here he would of folded preflop.

maybe... or maybe he wouldve called your 4b, he is 80bb fish who decided to click button, who knows what hes up for...
Check your database please, at the end of the day, being honest with yourself and black and white data is what makes you win, not some feeling about how people play or how fishes play (I see you are posting alot of crazy stuff so maybe Im completely biased here even regs are fishes xD)

Big mistake, and big leak.

I already know that I can 3bet you easily, because your only defense is to 4bet a lot, but I don't care, because you 4bet only bluffing because you think that I'll probably fold to much against 4bet.

About your KK, you miss value by do not 4betting these spot.
And i'm afraid but change its strategy thinking about a 5bet shove IS A MISTAKE AGAIN. I let you check how many time the opponent 5bet shove after your 4bet. And you just cannot answer me "quite often !!" because they cannot 3bet quite often, then 5bet quite often and always have AA... Or you're playing the most lucky player of the earth ahaha

Ok, on this spot SB will not call medium SC (mistake btw), and you think (ow, I won't 4bet he'll fold these hands). Ok, so you give a lot of equity to an opponent who just want to see a flop with the bigger effective stack possible.

I think you are to focus on some points and you forget the points less quantifiable (and there are more important); I mean, you focus on your losing pot against AA, and the guy who 3bet you 62s. But you are not thinking about the time in which the guy will call the 4bet with 62s and miss the board so he folds and there is no showdown...

Half of what you are writing is difficult to make sense of what your trying to say, but im guessing your asking me how many times am i up against AA preflop vs KK all in preflop out of 89 times all in preflop with KK i have ran into AA 27 times over 300,000 hands, i have lost most of them, the remaining 62 i have won half and lost half

I am focusing on the facts i have im unlucky all in preflop with KK, so im calling vs 3bets in futre with them, i call vs a lot of 3bets so how would you run over me with 3bets?

Also how will i lose value with them, i might make more how can you say that have you tested it?

Also a 62s calling a 4bet will check fold, but a 62s 3betting will trebble barrel bluff so your answer is inacurate

And if all your trying to do is put me down then why are you posting on my shit

I just want to help you and to give you some advice, you are asking for no ?
And I'm sorry for my English, my grammar is horrible... ahah

You said "I don't 4bet because when he 5bet I'm against AA and I lose 200bb"
- Yes, but how many times, after your 3bet, the opponent 5bet shove ? Look that on our tracker, and you'll find out that it's a little %age. And then, in all 5bet shove, look the %age of AA hands. This is to show you: you cannot just flat because sometimes your opponent will 5bet you. Think about a spot, you have 67 of heart, you have a flsh draw and you barrel on flop, on turn, and you hit your flush on the river: do you think "ok I don't want to bet, because if I bet, he has a better flush and I will lose" ? Of course not, because it not often happens.

"I don't 4bet to keep him bluffing with bad hands, and I do not want him to fold."
- Sometimes, opponent will just give up
- Sometimes, he'll hit a hand and beat you

"when he hits I'll take money"
-yes, but you could take more with a bigger pot built on the preflop.

And about their folding to 4bet, please again see the stat from your tracker. I think you could find stg like ''4bet success", and you'll find exactly, how much your opponents fold, overall.

And if I can give you some advice, is because I know the game, and I work quite a lot. I'm not a new one !

I hope it's clear this time. You have the good argument, but you just miss some points in your analysis.

nah he is not trying to put you down mate, he is trying to tell you different stuff (and be constructive ;))... look:
You open in BTN and you face a 3bet. Now, you always have a range of hands. So you are calling 3bets with KK and say "oh look, I have better results calling 3b with KK than when I 4bet them!" which is fair enough, you have that...
But his point is what happens, when you 4bet vs villains 3bet? What happens to your range? You dont have KK there, so you are either 4betting like 1% (so in that case dont be surprised to always see AA), or you are 4betting alot of hands (I saw you 4bet bluffing KJo etc), but your 4bet range is super weak! Yes you might have AA here and there but your range is full of that KJo KTo type of hands. Now - that means (once villains see that) that they can 3bet you pretty wide and once you 4bet, they can just shove vs you with alot of bluffs, because your 4bet range doesnt even have KK... So you will end up folding alot to 5bets, got it? :)
Thats what he was trying to say imo
